Well, I made the spanner, but before frustration got the better of me and I took to the fan with an angle grinder, I went and had a nap :lol:

In the video, they talk about putting a lever between the nuts on the pump pulley .... but I couldn't even get a screwdriver in there .... tried to put the belt back on ..... that was about the time a nap was in order ..... I'll take a photo on the phone as to what way it is threaded in there .....

Tomorrow is going to be another house look at thingy .... so everything is sorted as to just what we are doing as far as our future housing ..... not :roll:

Maybe Sunday will be the next Winnie work day .....

Terry was the house looking at Birdwood? How close do you think it will be before you are able to head off.?

Down in wine country Dottie and another one out where you had the shed, this will be a closer inspection and ask a lot of hard questions .....

Haven't finished pulling the Winnie apart yet, so the putting back together will take a while, still have to fit the gas tanks as well.

Had yet another water leak at the water heater, have I mentioned how much I hate John Guest fittings, this is between the fitting and the elbow brass fitting on the hot water outlet ..... even though the pump is only 40psi, the pressure build up as the water heats seems to be too much for these crappy fittings .... the pressure relief valve works fine, so it's not that ....

John Guest will always leak unless the inserts and circlips are used.

Inserts keep the pipe round so the O ring seals.
The circlips keep the everything (inc the pipe) square inside the fitting so the O ring seals on a 'circle' and not stretched across the oval.


Good luck with the fan. I hope you get it sorted.

Could you not have heated up the fan with a hot air gun which would lock it up? Which would allow you to hold the blades and stop it turning.
Then use a proper chisel nut tool. Would have only delayed by a day or too while waiting for the chisel and tool.

More like a week plus for any of those Chinese sites Jon. I managed to get the belt back on, I can't imagine attempting that from the inside under the engine cover with the fan and fan shroud in place, it was a maze just trying to work around the fan with it open from the front .... no idea how you would pull back against the tensioner either, the long breaker bar would fit inside the fan shroud ......

Can't find where the water pump has been stored ready for use, I will get the master of hide and seek to see if she can locate it tomorrow ;) :lol:

The John Guest fitting is leaking where the 1/2" BSP plastic male thread screws into the 90* brass fitting. There is an "O" ring recessed into the fitting and on "O" ring recess in the brass fitting .... but it still escaped

You can just see the edge of it at the top, it sealed for 4mths or more under constant heating and cooling, the water heater is never turned off, except when it leaks :roll:

I have glued the whole thing back together using T REX super stick stuff, the same as we used to hold the back window in the Mazda all those yrs ago .... well, not that many actually .... a lot has happened between then and now .....
Anyway, we will give it 24 hrs to cure, if it fails this time I will source a brass fitting and olive to lock the plastic pipe into the fitting .....

That is what came apart the first time, that plastic piece launched out of the brass piece and flooded the floor ..... No sooner fixed that one and the other one let go .......

The pump is only 40 psi, so it's not pressure that kills them, they are simply crap ....

Replaced a lot of them when doing the crane building, some engineer thought they were a quick simple solution ..... within 2 yrs, every one of them had been replaced with the brass fitting that had been used for 20 yrs .....

Terry Ihaven't had any of the JG brass fittings tagged as "watermark" fail yest and some have been in place on the hot water outlest for 15 years now.
They have some of them at the end of jon's link above. Brass threaded section in m and f and then a white/grey plastic bit to accept the JG pipe.
They are pretty tough, have one under the Oka where it gets a lot of road debris when 4wding and it's not failed yet but is on a cold line but under pressure when pump is on.
I found anything with a female plastic thread WILL fail at the bottom of the thread as they crack there when done up way too tight by the installer.
Another solution is to use 12mm airline fittings, they are very tough and much cheaper than JG fittings, Can get them on Aliexpress in quantity too.

Thanks Peter, that is what they used in the site crane constructions as well. The one way valve on the heater cold side and the pressure relief valve being a lot higher than the 40psi of the pump, added to heat from the tank, I believe all contributes to the failure of these John Guest fittings with brass ones and nylon olives ..... they seem to have the most success where heat and pressure are combined ....
