Well my head is hurting!
Since I've been up here in Nth Qld I've had to change from Optus to Telstra. (Very poor reception/speed)
Then Iget a message from Telstra to tell me my phone can't connect to 000 if Telstrahas an outage so the will cut off EVERYTHING to my phone on 27th of Nov. Talk, chat. Sms, txt, internet, data .....
So got anew phone ....
Oldlaptop was still slow as so new laptop.
So now I'm running back & forthbetween 4 units to find all my original stuff like manuals, photos, contacts, email addresses, facebook chat mates etc.
Did Isay my head hurts? & my eyes!!!

Re: New phone & computer
We have used Starlink for a few years, first in the van and then the house. Telstra was slow and dropping out.
Problem with Starlink now is not being able to get replies when you have problems they have dropped the ball all round.

Re: New phone & computer
Thought about Starlink but can you take it with you into a shopping centre & get calls while you're in there? lol
Caneland shopping centre is so big I need to be able the send an SOS when I get lost!!
If I was still inclined to travel the country I'd be all over it!!

Re: New phone & computer
Bruce, starlink gives you internet access.
The phone still needs a sim/account to connect to the phone system.
So when at home, you can use the phone 4/5g service or VoIP. Phone over internet via Starlink.
When in town, use 4/5G

Re: New phone & computer
Apart from the change of supplier bit, I’m in the same boat, Bruce!
Decided that my 10+ year old MacBook Pro laptop was rapidly approaching the point where I’ll receive a message that it’s too old to take the latest software update.
So I did my due diligence (so I thought) and bought an iPad Air with SCADS of RAM.
Discovered that my CD-based MS Office doesn’t transfer, and I can’t buy the appropriate version outright! Monthly subscription-only!

Spent THREE HOURS yesterday trying to subscribe… eventually gave up and tomorrow it’s off to the Apple dealer in Albury for help.
ps. T1, this is not unique to the Apple version.

Re: New phone & computer
Ray I had the salesman at Hardly Normal try his hardest to sell me that 'extra' subscription to Office 365 or whatever the onlineversion in the cloud is called.
I refused ' started telling him I can get the free version from the internet from another company that will open, alter & save all of the Office documents & suddenly he had an ordinary copy of Office that uses the activation number like bygoneyears.
He reduced the price to half so Ibought it anyway.
No cloud for me.

Re: New phone & computer
There is a case before the ACCC right now about this.
What he did was purely illegal under consumer law.
You should contact the accc about what happened and stick to them.

My proper computer is only 12 mths old Ray, no monthly subscriptions for anything except You Tube premium, because I hate being interrupted by ads part way through watching something .....Greynomad wrote: ↑Mon Nov 10, 2025 1:11 am Apart from the change of supplier bit, I’m in the same boat, Bruce!
