Bernie, hate to be the bearer of bad news, but that section across the back is metal, not fibreglass, so someone has attempted to patch it before.
Do you think the air conditioner housing was ordinally at the rear, or was it either moved from the front and added from another Hino?
If you sand all the way around the edges, you will discover how it was attached .... it might be possible to removing it, replate the rusted roof, repair the rusted air conditioner housing, then properly attach it to the roof using the adhesive they put car roof domes onto the frame with ......
These are the things seen on the body repair shows to hold the panel in place while attaching it https://pilotgear.com.au/products/10-pa ... EiEALw_wcB
the 1/8" hole is simply filled in with the same panel joining glue, then a bead of panel sealer around the outside edge and the inside edge so water can't get under the join and cause the problem to happen again.
There is a possibility the who ever fitted it, used acidic cure Silastic, that attacks the bare metal surfaces and starts the rust ..... a lot of panel beaters were caught out with that stuff when it first came out.

Thanks Terry.. it's only surface rust on the actual roof.
It was/is only held down with pop riverts . and I'm familiar with Cleco..I gave a lot away after I sold my last aircraft... it's not as bad as the picture suggests I've lifted it to gain access... and yes not fibre glass as I first thought... just heavy brush marks...
That hairy stuff is a bit exxie Jon..I will be in Maryborough Friday for another event...I will go to Bunnings then.

Re: Good morning daily
Can you see if they removed it from the front, or if your Hino didn't have one originally ..... I've seen a number of Hinos all looking flash without the front hump and they all said the panel beater removed it when replacing the roof skin. They were shockers for water condensing in the air conditioning tunnels along each side of the roof, soaking into the insulation and eating the panels above the gutters away ......BernieQ2 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 18, 2025 12:27 pm Thanks Terry.. it's only surface rust on the actual roof.
