Terry, all the big Winnebagos suffer from stress fractures in the outer skin, eventually. Different year models crack in different places. No point trying to fix it as it will crack again in same place.
If you are going to try anything, then pòut a flex point in there. The proper name eludes me right now. They are all a great big H.O S, but that's what we have. The smaller versions a just a little H.O.S.
Different manufacturer, similar problems. The chassis flex is what kills them. Don't bother trying to fix the unfixable, you've got more important things to finish.
It's nearly the end of January. If you don't get you finger out soon and get that Winnie registered, you'll be coming over to Taggerty 2026 as a passenger with Dot and George.
Cheers

The backing was just rubbish ply that had delaminated,
that's no good.... water damage/rot?

No need to start the MIG. Just use a bit of cored wire and a magnifying glass.

Or maybe wait till Wednesday

I think it was just standard ply, not sealed at all, and the water splash just melted the glue .... it was only the squared open section pieces that acted as trim, kept any of it still there. No trim across the top, just a bit of silicon glue to hold it onto the frame and that just let go back in 2003 when it left the Emu Plains shed ......

What a good idea..... Terry could share the driving with Dot. George and Margaret could sit on the couch and play "I spy".

I can't imagine Dottie allowing anyone to drive the big bus  Four of us in the bed might be interesting as well ;) Some different stories for around the campfire at least :o

These complete fractures were due to the coke can thick frame only being spat welded in two spots, so it had zero strength.
The new frame is to act as a support for under the step as well as thick enough material to hold the thread of the self tapers that hold the door frame on and the gal sheet walls of the stair well .....

The rest of the body will probably fatigue fracture around the stair frame and stronger body frame to hold it in place
I think the locking handle has broken fibreglass around it on every bin door, the paint is about as thick as the fibreglass sheet used.
I'm thinking about using the aluminium sandwich multipanel sheeting in place of the fibreglass on all the bits below floor level, repair/replace each one as a separate project each time I think I'm approaching the end of the list of stuff to do on it, so 2030's type stuff
