It used to start with Brian's butane torch igniting the diesel soaked rags and combustibles. Never seen a bad Taggerty fire yet.T1 Terry wrote: ↑Thu Jan 29, 2026 10:21 pmI thought Cuppa used oil soaked rags, the diesel was just to get the rags burning, the petrol was to get the diesel burningjon_d wrote: ↑Thu Jan 29, 2026 10:09 pmJohn's certainly tried to trap me there..... but I have a secret. Bigger and hotter burns faster. I've invited a few fission nuclear scientists to Taggerty to get some ideas. They're having trouble working out how to seed their mechanical sun with enough heat to trigger the initial reaction.just as well too, poor Jon would never be able to leave the farm once that stuff started burning .....
I said start with green and add diesel. They didn't quite understand. Bit like foot and 300mm, I'm guessing..![]()

Wow there there is some serious wood splitting gear in your back sheds, mine is starting to suffer a distinct lack of power and at times bounces off the jarrah attempting to hit me in the head

Re: Good morning daily
Another quandary solved, You boys talking about how big and powerful your splitters are Why do you make work for yourselves? build a bigger fireplace . My old husb made one for his workshop in cold old NZ out in the pine forest. (upper Atiamuri) It was around 4ft x 3ft, lifted the lid and filled it up and it went for day, actually got so hot they had to put more protective material on the floor around it. It worked so good he had to make another smaller one for the boss's house. It was just a huge steel box and air holes and a chimney all surrounded by thick mesh stuff.
If you spilt a beer on the floor it sizzled nicely.
BTW Good morning all.
Queen of the Banal & OT chatter and proud of it. If it offends you then tough titty titty bang bang.

Good morning.
I'm still working on the wood heap...her said I've split 54 blocks so far...at least that many left
plus apparently another ute full to go and get...
There is a very large Ironbark on one of my neighbours blocks..he said his Dad cut it down somewhere around 30 years ago..I have taken some from it some years back.
I guess today will be a rerun of yesterday..I'm still to assemble the bedroom chest of drawers that Carol bought a week ago..it's all layed out waiting
.
Keep safe.
Bernie.

Re: Good morning daily
Good morning everyone. It looks like another copy and paste 'might hit 30⁰ with no rain day' here.
I'm just feeling sorry for myself this morning because my mouth still hurts where the fang farrier ripped out a bad tooth and screwed an implant in. I'll be giving myself a kick up the butt soon and telling myself how lucky I am to still be able to do stuff.
Terrie is preparing to head down to Mulwala and bring her mum up here. We will be the 'assisted living facility' as there are no places available down there, at present.
So, I'll be batching again for a few days from Sunday.
Have the best day possible everybody.
Safe travels all those out and about.

"tanks" here---
The temperature on the WA wheatbelt for Wyalkatchem is 28 °C at 09:30 am, is 28c and with a predicted 38c.
I am back on the walking cane for a bit until my head gets around the extra strength pain medication that the Palliative Care mob has me on.
I just use the cane to get into and out of bed, and for limited walking from the bedroom to the sunroom.
Such is life in the geriatric lifestyle. I almost forgot ---the forecast is 19c to 38c today, and the aircon is going full blast.

I'm now 87 years old, having experienced another birthday, and I'm still living in WA, single (gave up looking), white hair, no teeth, no money, no worries.
I plan to have another birthday next year.

Where was all thus good wood when I has my lathes
If you want good hot woid for your fires try Osage Orange
very hot, used to love turning at as it look attractive, turned easy as it was oily and smelt ilke orange. The woid was very had and made good mortal andpestles and mallets for woid working. Even use my malled with coal chiskes with no dents. First time my mate used some off cits in his fire it nelted his grate. Just the outer edges were keft. After that it was added soaringly and he used the shavings, but agaun no great lots.

Thanks for the heads up on the Orange wood Brian. I had no idea it was a hard hard wood.
