Unfortunately the ones I've talked to desire the rough, open style of camping. They (like a lot of us?) do NOT wish to be fenced in, locked up and otherwise be treated like a mob of sheep. I understand that & wish them luck.
They are free to camp almost anywhere along roadsides, in parking bays, out along the beach BUT they seem to always camp in the designated camping areas for TOTALLY self reliant outfits of all types.
Our town did have a backpackers hostel & those travelling by pushbike & hitch hiking did use it but the "wicked" type backpacker vans & other wizz-bangs never did stay there.
It seems these areas will either be used by ALL or they'll be closed. No middle ground.
The other (possible) alternative might be a dedicated **** pop parking area. (privately owned by **** or a generous benefactor.

Gee, when we stayed at Kingston SE earlier on this year it was spotless and an idyllic place to spend the night! Sad that a few people should spoil it for those of us that respect the environment.

Dee it's still quite clean & looked after by everyone. It's just the issue of ones using the area that technically aren't fully self contained. In other words are violating the council bylaws in regards to those free camping areas.
As for your pictures being upside down......... Tell Greg to stop driving over so many rough roads & flipping them in your camera or laptop!!!
No...... really I heard "post image" have been having quite a bit of trouble.
I'll grab your pics & flip them but if it keeps happening for you, you can scroll a bit further down & use the inbuilt phpBB photo one.

Pity we didn't know you were in Kingston SE when we were there.....
