Floppy drive

During a sort out of the GEEKY stuff I found 3 boxes of 3.5 floppy discs. No being one to waste things.I bought a USB floppy drive off Flea-bay. It duly arrived and in the instructions no mention of win7. Poo, thought I had a dud. But went for a caffeine and nicotine hit came back all working. Now I am having fun going through all those stupid things that were on the net, way back to 1994 the files are dated. Have had a ball looking at the stuff. But boy is it slow, I could fall asleep with the speed some of it loads. And no I am not going to put the stuff on the hard drive.

But if you have any floppies, discs that is. They are well worth the $13.46 , even for the bit of nostalgia.

Peter, that is a subject dear to me heart. No, not floppy disc, but nostalgia.

However, being the sort of nut I am, labelling all mine saved me from the sort of pain you are now experiencing.

Mate, I'm sure if you advertised it, that you would be inundated with request to sort through other peoples files for them.

When I had the workshop (15 yrs ago) our data back up was the 5.25" floppies, 15 of them to back up the data only off the huge 40Mb drive To think you can buy 64 gig thumb drives now, and 32 gig for less than $1 a gig, eyes rolled back then at the thought of a gig of hard drive memory, these days it's standard to have 4 gig of ram

Guess I'd be showing all me cards if I mentioned 8" floppies.

I only know of one type of floppy, gigs, rams etc etc is way beyond me just enjoy yourselves playing with those floppy discs.

No we used them then the 5.25. When I left the glass industry the 8" machine was still in use. I had arranged for an optic fibre cable to run through the plant. I got a 10 port hub installed and was told to big. It was all used up in 3 months. The hub cost $7500 I look at the cost now and am amazed at the cost reduction.

There is a cut away 10mb hard drive in the CSC foyer where Margaret works. At the cost memory in those days a 4 gig stick of ram would have cost in the US$ billions, now 4 terabit hard drives are expected to hit the 3 cents per gig by the end of the yr.

Size isn't everything - this little guy has 4Gb and has a 2Gb micro in his belt just for show and tell.

My car cams have 16Gb micro cards and are 32Gb capable. The phone has a 64Gb micro HC SD 70MB/s card.

dawg (not to mention a tonne of the plain ol vanilla postage stamp size SD cards for things like cameras)
