Goomarling WA

Post by Chuck »

Have been here since Monday & @ $75 p/w (pensioner/old fart rate) we figured it worth staying put for a couple of weeks to save some $$$ for further down the WA coastline - maybe.

So, yesterday, Navigator drops into the office to extend our stay for another 2 weeks only to be told that the entire park was booked out for the next 2 weeks at least. Ok, back to plan B. Went out for a drive around & when we returned found a note on the screen door saying... 'come over to the office - might be able to squeeze you in'. Now the strange thing about this is that Ivan & Pam whom we met at Dalwallinu were here before us & also asked - before us - to extend for another week but were told no vacancies - yet we get the nod to stay. :?

Would have to move from our current site #15 - 2 sites from the ablutions block - to site #19 beside the BBQ & the camp fire. No great problem... well, have just realised that it is next to a semi permanent couple parked in the corner near the office & both are heavy smokers... & that is where the wind has been coming from for the past 4 days!!! :o

Initially was happy & 'C' paid the additional up front but now wondering if we might have made a boo boo. :?

Went for a drive today into Northam to get the (NSW)pre rego roadworthy check done by an authorised centre (Host Automotive) then out to Toodyay for a cuppa & a bo peep at the 2 van parks there owned by the same couple. One closest to town is an average looking park with quite a few permanents so went to have a look at the other one - the bush setting place. Very nice & think we might go there next for a week...$30 p/d & stay 7 pay for 6 (low season). May even go a little earlier if the smoke from fire & neighbours gets a bit too much to handle.

No offence to the smokers on site here but in confined spaces like this park, well.....

Also managed to get the Cruiser booked in to the Northam Toyota joint for a service next Tuesday... woo hoo!!!

As you know, you fight fire with fire, do the same with wind,  you are more than capable. How about a pic or two to show us where and what you are doing?

Oh gosh, that doesn't sound good. We had a wonderful 2 weeks at Goomalling. Began with 3 nights on a site closest to the road. - all good. Then decided to stay an extra couple of nights but had to move as a club was booked for all the sites across the front (C&C will know where we mean). So we relocated to the back stalls. All good. Then we stayed for another week because of such wonderful company. The smokers I think you refer to are Phil and Helen, although I think only Helen smokes now and is generally considerate of others. We really didn't have a problem with the smokers or the camp fire - just had to move around to avoid the smoke depending on the wind. Give them a go C&C, they are really a lovely couple, although Phil seems a bit of a blow hard but in reality is a nice bloke. We would be happy to camp with them anytime again but they are an acquired taste!

It is really a great CP and the caretakers are very friendly and helpfull.
Cheers

Just to clarify for C&C, we started out on site 8 and then moved to site 22. All the rest of the sites to the left of us were taken at that point. It was quite a good spot.

I'm now 87 years old, having experienced another birthday, and I'm still living in WA, single (gave up looking), white hair, no teeth, no money, no worries.
I plan to have another birthday next year.

Duriff was just a distant memory by then Dot but I did share a nice Swan Valley Verdelho with Phil for helping us erect our annexe for the very first time.
