I have just had to replace all the power points in the kitchen. I did one 4 months ago, the type with the extra light switch. I paid $45 for that one. Went back to Middys yesterday to get 2 more and a standard one, $51 for the 3. The issue was the mounting had broken on one and I thought replace the lot before they all go. I have found since then that the plugs on the devices used all have a big difference in how smoothly they fit in the sockets. some are a nice firm fit, others are extremely tight to get in and pull out. Has anyone else experienced this or is it just me.
As an aside the sockets are actually made in Australia. Which is a bonus s.

China has a standard power point that looks the same as ours. But it isn't. An Australian plug is difficult to insert, with all the characteristics that you mention.

Maybe it's made in Aust from local and imported ingredients. My guess is it possible some of the packaging may have been made in Aust, but that's about it.
There was a flood of Clipsal branded powerpoints on the market a while back at an unbelievable price. The story is someone sent a sample to china to get a price to have them made similar. The price was staggeringly cheap so this up and coming entrepreneur decided to go ahead and get 10,000 units made to try the market. When they arrived they were complete with the Clipsal brand name moulded into the back of the plastic bits along with all the associated numbers and Aust standards etc
The guy panicked and dumped them via evil bay and the likes very cheap, they later reappear all over the place on warehouse and shop shelves. They had the same problem, the switch failed after a short time in the rocker action and the socket was a very tight fit on the pins

I believe I have one of these in a double outlet configuration. One of the sockets is quite OK but the other one is very difficult to get a plug into.
I guess I had better bite the bullet and replace it.

I have been right around the house and found I have about 35 to replace. They are all around 20 years old and the plastic where the mounting screws is going very brittle. That's the trouble when you fit out a house with a huge amount of power points. The lounge alone has 7 doubles. But it is still pleasing that I can get Ozzie made ones at a reasonable price.
