Nightly Goodnight Everyone

Drop in and dribble on about nothing serious. Seriously a mad place to hang out. Better to avoid it if you're not in the mood!!! If you're determined to be sad, bad, mad & angry then move along!!!

The other thing you have to keep in mind is, if after purchase all is good then one of you pass away. Is the other happy to stay [a long way sometimes from family and old friends]. Too many I know the widow/ widower cannot afford to sell up and move back to the family etc. I know my wife and I moved from Sydney to Port Macquarie, then she got sick and I cared for her till I lost her. What do I do with a 3 bedroom house on my own? I know, I sold up and bought a 5'er and now live full time on the road. But no that would not suit all people.

Live life the way that suits you right now I guess., maybe have a good discussion on these "what if's" while you are both around. I want to downsize, even to a nice retirement place but I am meeting some resistance from you know who, but the time will come very soon when we have that "now" talk. We will be staying in this area what ever way we decide to go. :D

We've often chatted about this step in our lives.
It's a big decision. As you age it's quite common for your health to need more attention.
So you may need to consider ambient temperatures (hot & cold), Hospital location, Dr in locality, Ambulance response time, Retirement village in area? etc etc
One BIG problem I've found is that most ideal locations lack facilities that may be needed later on down the track.
On the other hand, the places that tick all the boxes are very expensive or are cramped like chooks in a chook pen.
This is the conversation we had some time ago.
Without going into great detail, I have a terminal cancer which (according to statistics) should have seen me pushing up daisies about 14 years ago.
We decided that the climate would suit me better in Qld, but that was way too far away from our son, his wife & our granddaughter who are staying in Melbourne for the forseeable future.
The compromise was "somewhere along the Murray" - on the Vic side, to simplify rego, insurance, licences, etc.
We have considered access to medical, hospital, ambulance, etc, as well as fast access to the Hume Hwy so our son (with family) can visit us, or we him.
The location we have chosen meets all the criteria.
All we have to do now is wait for the paperwork to catch up, and sell up in Melbourne. We've cut short our Grey Nomadding North to return to the 'frozen waste' and put our house on the market asap.
Anyone want to buy a great house on a big block, in a great location? ... Just a bit chilly at the moment.

PS.
Peter,
We had friends experience the same thing. Moved from Melb to Batemans Bay. Nine months later, husband diagnosed with cancer - half-way through renovations to the new house. Died within 3 months. Wife had to sell the unfinished project & return to Melbourne, to a much smaller house than the one they'd sold a year earlier.
Regards & God bless,
Ray

My mum & Dad sold their 14 acres at Beechworth Vic
and moved into a temp house in Milang SA (near my thieving sister) 1 week after they got here Dad decided to fall off the perch :( but mum survived and got on with life till she too fell off her perch. Luck of the draw I guess.
