Half the problems with auto electrics are because of faulty earth returns through various dodgy body parts, also you can get electrolysis between dissimilar metals in the return path.

Dirk perhaps leave it as you plan but run a double neg & dpos from the regulator to the batteries. Make them identical lengths. Might be as cheap & easier to find the size. I used the twin core in the black wrap.

I know about faulty earth the bloke we bought the bus off i dont think he belived in earth the gremlins visit us regular last time it was the tail lights to auto three weeks to traces it all be fore that it was all the lights in side been a real night mare in electric

Cold solder, bad crimps in those Scotch lock terminals are a source of a lot of troubles. Seen a lot of earths screwed into a panel where the undersides haven't been cleaned of paint. Heavy multi strand cables loose where the wire is barely making contact with the connector. All making for a nightmare to find.

It's funny but you still see late model trucks having earth leads from battery to chassis or engine and no earth pole on a starter motor.
You would think it'd make sense to run earth directly to a pole on the starter motor?

G'Day Peter,
Reg. to batteries 4.200 or so, one wire. So a total with 2 wires of 8.400. If things get to far away I can relocate the reg to the interior of the bus from the bins, that way it would be 3.500, total 7.000. I would prefer it down in the bins along with the inverter but if its to far away then happy enough to relocate to the interior cupboards.

Hell this stuff gets confusing.

THAT is far to high.
You would need at least 4B&S[21.5mm2] to obtain a voltage drop around 0.25V
