Bloody computers...

Drop in and dribble on about nothing serious. Seriously a mad place to hang out. Better to avoid it if you're not in the mood!!! If you're determined to be sad, bad, mad & angry then move along!!!

Bloody computers...

Post by Chuck »

Had my laptop in for a grease/oil change & - for me - some major updates... during the back up phase all my contact details decided to desert the sinking ship. Possibly due to me using Mozilla Thunderbird... it did not transfer across.

Anyway, it's all gonski !

Now then, dear friends, If we have previously exchanged emails would you kindly send me an email with your details - as much as you're comfortable with - so I can rebuild it again... this time in a safer environment. If we have not yet done so but you may wish to ... please feel free.

Was using XP previously, now have Windoze 7 & isn't that just a pleasant little learning curve? Amazing how much I relied on visual aids with the old XP & now the screen is vastly different I have to actually search for what I'm trying to achieve. No doubt it will all come good eventually but it's bloody frustrating at the moment.

OK. Back to the learning curve.

Thanks all.

Join the club of fools. I thought you always had to go searching for what you wanted anyway

Hi, all.

Grey Nomad - our Microsoft PCs usually went to the repair bloke every six months ago to clean out viruses - bought the Imac two and a half years ago and the only probs we have are sorted out by one phone call to Apple. Their after-sales service is excellent.
See you on the back roads,

You can install VMware and run XP on the new W7 system. Probably better to bite the W7 bullet but if you have a favourite program that won't run under 7 that's an option.

Wish I had known of the soft ware to keep running XP on Win 7. What a bloody nightmare it is and still is. The old XP was so idiot proof and just so easy to get around in. Still coming to grips with W7 even now. Not that that is unusual with a bloke with my computer skills at the best of times.

Every crash, and there have been a few on W7 and I kept loosing contacts as well as bookmarks so now I have gone back to the stone age and recording them in an exercise book.

For those who have upgraded (yes, I know, that's contentious and provocative) and bypassed Windows Vista - count yourselves fortunate. Talk about Win 7 crashing! You don't know what you missed with Vista. Win 7 is wonderful compared to Vista and I rate it with Win 98 - bullet proof. That is my experience anyway with Win 7 and I've run them all since dos was an infant on IBM XT's with no hard drive and floppy's only.
