I'm assuming they followed those install instructions to the letter!
Dirk has his to install once he gets to that stage so does he instruct his installer to follow "protocol" or follow the included instructions?
One may be illegal & the other may void his warranty?
No body can win in this one!!!
HI Bruce
The rules & regulations will always win ;) :)
Just the same as with generator instructions which say to use an earth stake
The stupidity of the single pole switch arrangement is a fault could easily lead to the element being ON even though the switch is 'OFF"
Then there is the safery aspect where some one MAY THINK because the switch is of ,EVERYTHING is dead.
IF you read the wiring diagram it DOES show that the single pole switch SHOULD be in the "active" line
So actualy the instructions are correct, IF the unit is /can be wired up correctly
Unfortunately with our situation in Aus, which input is active cannot be gauranteed

I have the same water heater and the 240V is connected to it by means of a short length of flex power cord terminated in a 3 prong plug that connects into a double pole power point. No problem with single pole switching.
The power point is fitted inside a cupboard that the heater backs up against.

Re. running both gas and 240v. I have a suspicion (not yet confirmed) that the gas will not operate if the 240 is turned on so light the gas first and then turn on the 240v.
