But was there a line of oil drops heading out the gate that it left behind? They will often drop a bit of oil from oil seals when the engine hasn't been run for a long time but that takes up after a while. They may have changed filters before start up, that would leave a bit of oil. The cloud of smoke will settle by the first tank full of fuel. Now if it had left in a cloud of steam or white smoke, then a stop was likely not too far down the road.

3rd and final bus has left the park... AM these ones were so dirty and that black stuff that comes off the ??Blackbut tree no one would dare to go on the open road let alone say they owned it. They looked like they were covered in mould. What size bus do your friends have? and do you know what the internal layout looks like?
