HIP-1500 psw inverter

Hi all
I have a HIP-1500 psw inverter.
It had been working great running toaster, hair dryer and coffee machine.
Was testing it with the hair dryer and it was turning off and on as though it was overloaded
Put power meter on it and it was only 1350w which normally it will easily run for over 10 mins

On testing found the volts to be 213 volts and the frequency 50 hz and sometimes 60hz

Is it a bin job or can it be adjusted

What brand is a HIP inverter? Do you have a photo? Is it the light weight aluminum cased unit that the likes of Bitdeals and BluTec etc sell on evilBay?

Yes it is Terry
I think it is the same as one you were talking about in another post earlier this year or last year
It is probably 3 years old

Have you checked the condition of your wiring and connections? Poor connections or undersized wiring may cause problems.

Yes Craig.
Sounds more like low batteries, bad connection or too light of wires but I guess if you know all that is OK then it does sound like the unit has failed.

The 1500w rating is miss leading. The inverter will drag 1500w from the battery under full load, it will not supply 1500w output continuously. The 3,000 w bit is meaningless, it's a momentary overload, last about the blink of an eye, continuous load for an inverter that size would be 1350w at best. There would be a series of fuses soldered directly into the circuit board, most likely at least one of those fuses has blown so the remaining switching transistors are being severely overloaded causing the drop in AC output and wandering frequency. My guess is the overload has started to take it's toll on the components and it's dieing.
As the fuses are soldered into the board it is extremely difficult to replace them, possibly pulling the plastic top off and soldering the legs of a new fuse to the stubs that remain could work but best to start saving the $$ as this one is about to die, especially if you try to load it beyond 1000w until the blown fuse is replaced. the rest of the fuses would be strained as well so....... they are built with he cheapest bits the buyers can find, this includes the fuses so the 50 amp rating could be any where from 40 amps to 55 amps, but more likely closer to the 40 amp end, if you replace them all with quality Hella or Wurth 50 amp fuses it may come good.

The batteries were fully charged regulator was on float

I had an old 1000w msw inverter that i connected to try and it worked with no problems running toaster and iron 954w for a good 10 mins the voltage hardly changed and frequency was good

Checked connections at battery and fuse all OK, no melting of insulation, all good

I can only find 2x fuses and they are fine 40amp each
I will have another look

There must be more in there some where, 2 x 40 amps would only give it a max input rating of 900w or so.

You were right found two more 40anp fuses hiding under some wires each one is near 2x 2200uF capacitors on one side and on the other side are the transformers

All the 4 fuses are good, there was no burnt smell or any sign of overheating
