what to do next!

Post by esros »

hi folks - thanks for the welcome Dot - and Bruce.
At first, I thought that in time, I'd like to try 'house sitting' and if that works out, could sell the house and travel until I know where I want to settle!
But - at the same time that Keith fell and broke his hip, I had bought a gold detector, and want to get fossicking! My dilemma was - do I sell the motorhome, and buy an off-road van and 'proper' 4x4 - as I really need a vehicle once I get to the camping area! Then I thought that as I 'know' the motor in the motorhome - have new batteries/tyres/etc. etc. - keep the motorhome and maybe buy a 'toad'! I have a diesel Xtrail and it's not suitable to 'flat tow' so would have to trade it in or else tow it on a trailer!!! Decisions decisions decisions!! I have towed caravans since I was 20, but the motorhome is so enjoyable to drive! Also - every time you buy a vehicle - there is more sales tax to pay! I guess some of you have had this dilemma! :) Esme

Might pay to just go with the flow for a little while like you suggest. Let the dust settle and things may become much clearer.
A lot of people have major problems staying in their house......... just too many memories. (mostly good!)

There are quite a few doing the prospecting thing.
Did you have a particular area in mind?

Have a chat to Craig & Cheryl re the prospecting thing, they are doing that right now, plus Bob & Bev they are real old hands at that game and I am sure they would be more than willing to give you all the info you desire. I would say "don't jump too fast" for a while. :)

yeah - they say that you shouldn't sign anything or make important decisions for some months after a major change in your life! so will just do small trips - and see what happens! Will be great if I can catch up with other prospecting folks! For the moment, am just staying around the Wide bay area - as it's too hot to go north or west at this time of the year. There seems to be quite a lot of gold fields in the area. Am on a couple of fossicking forums which I've learned a lot from their different links etc. Esme

Peter - a small 5th wheeler has even crossed my mind!! But I think it might be a better option IF I sold the house later rather than taking it on fossicking trips. Esme

Hi Esme, as you would be solo travelling, I'd think seriously about a well built light weight trailer. The logic, you can reverse a trailer is needed, you can't reverse when A framing, the toad must be dropped and moved out the way, the A frame stowed and then the motorhome reversed to where needed, then the reverse process. That could be a real bugga on your own if you just miscalculated a U turn.

The gold detecting has become a very popular pass time, good to hear you are on a few forums for that so they shold be able to steer you right, Bob & Bev and Craig & Cheryl are into it and so was Alpacha John and ...... that's terrible, it'll come to me I'm sure. Haven't heard from them for a long while, hope they are both well, his wife made the most amazing teddy bears, Elle, that was it, Elle's Bears.

The towing system that Steve Ozfueler uses was able to be done by Lorraine all by her self and she has bad bad back problems, I was very impressed, it only took her less than 1 minute to do it and NO help or assistance from a male. After she had unhooked the car, the towing arm things folded neatly along the front of the car and were not in the way of anything. Personally I would rather have that system than a trailer but that's just me who is totally unable to back a trailer anyway.
