hi folks - can't find a particular area to put this, so 'dropping in' here!
Don't know if anyone else has been caught with this - the other month, I exchanged an 8.5 kg gas bottle for the motorhome but as I wasn't needing it just immediately, left it sitting in the pergola till I eventually took it out to put it in it's place - a firm fit at the best of times - wellllllllllllllllllll - there is NO way this bottle was going to fit - I got a tape measure, and it's circumference was actually 1 inch longer! Luckily for me - I keep ALL MY RECEIPTS - and took it back with no problems - AND took my tape measure too!!! It's never happened to me before! If the bottle has a good amount of time on it's expiry date, I would normally get it refilled - but down here it's $9 more to do that!!! Esme

Yes Esme, I've found a similar problem with the 4.5kg ones. With them it's the height problem for me.......... they won't fit where I want to put them.
Sometimes I just wish they'd stick with uniform things. For years it's been different rims for Holden & Ford. Why? Not good when you stop to help a friend with a flat tyre!!!

We have the same problem with our 4.5kg gas bottles they are Manchester brand & not as tall so we always have to refill.

Re: gas bottle size for Winnebago Leisure Seeker
We have found that a lot of the places in the remote areas in WA only exchange bottles. I was told this before we left Perth earlier in the year so I went to the rubbish tip and asked if I could take one of their dumped 9kg bottles (with a plan to exchange it if required). He agreed so I went over to the cage with all the returned bottles in it and pulled out the best looking one. When I got home I noticed it was still in date for another five years and it was half full
. It is a larger diameter also but I won't complain. Those larger diameter bottles are the reason that we don't swap and I have had to have both our fitted bottles re-certified in the last couple of years.

Cheaper to buy new when yours are out of date I reckon, we never swap. They should standardise so you know where you are.

No, they are cheap to re-cert. The last one cost $50, and that included a re-fill. Compared to buying the same quality bottle it is far cheaper to re-certify.esros wrote:and they know how to charge to re-certify them eh!!

I thing the problem basically arose with the "Swap N Go' which is when they derated all cylinders to 8.5kg when the standard was always 9kg, some of the overseas cylinders were 8.5 so they decided to only fill all cylinders to that level. thereby increasing their profit level by this amount (a basic 5% margin) and if they called it safety no one would mind.esros wrote:hi folks - can't find a particular area to put this, so 'dropping in' here!

We have found this problem a few times over the last year, it seems to be getting more prevalent, particularly, as there seem to be more places that are swap only and wont refill cylinders. From My observation there appears to be three or four size variations both in height and diameter. Some of the re-sellers get a bit stroppy when I declare that I need to go through the stock of cylinders to get the same size, if wont refill my own cylinders.
