Hi again....

We had two pleasant days at Mays Bend, then into Bourke ..was going to check out the Back o' Bourke exhibition but baulked at the entrance fee!

This is Greg posing with the bottle of Spitfire Beer my son brought over from England...we're doing a shoot on "How far can a Spitfire go?".....we should add "without it being drunk!"

We are now camped by the Coolabah Pub @ $5 a night with power. A guy drove up with a trailer full of wild goats...he gets $20 a goat and does at least 8 runs a day....the trailer holds 50. They go to the abattoir. Apparently the meat is good, no parasites, because it's so dry around here. The publican says the guy makes between $5000 and $8000 a day!

Cheers

Had a lovely time catching up with friends in Nyngan, then headed along the Barrier Highway...which is one of the most boring highways I've been on...and the rest/overnight spots left us cold....so many were barren, exposed and full of herds of goats...one actually stank of rotting carcass. So we headed to broken Hill and ended up staying in the Top Tourist park there...overpriced but we got washing done.

We are now camped off the highway, not far from the F&V manned checkpoint. But we are lucky to be alive! A road train overtook us as a car was coming the other way, and if Greg hadn't stamped on the brakes we would have been history...the rear of the road train nearly clipped us as it was pulling in to avoid a head on with the car.m it was one of the Harrison's Refridgerated Transports. Greg got on the UHF and said "If you had a brain you'd be dangerous" and he responded "If I had a brain I'd be doing what you're doing". Bloody idiot. :x He only had to wait a couple of seconds and the road would have been clear.

The place we have stopped at has no loos, so I guess it's not surprising that there's loo paper fluttering everywhere! Nackara East Rest Area.

....on the road again shortly....just getting the van ready for the inspection!

Cheers

Well, after lots of hot weather, then wind, then cold, then hot again, we are settled for a few days....at the famous free camp in Strathalbyn! We had a lovely welcome from Dot and George, who really are the walking wounded at the moment...how they manage to still joke and be cheerful I don't know, but they do!

It's perfect weather for me, an Aussie-Pom....cool at night but just comfortable during the day. We have picked up my Jimny, which Greg's sister was looking after...can't complain as they've had it nearly a year...but it has been driven on wierd air pressures...14 on one tyre, 31 on two other...when it should be 24 on the back and 26 on the front...or vice versa...so one tyre is bald on one side of it..Greg changed that, put the correct pressure in all tyres, we checked the oil (low) etc., and now all I have to do is put petrol in it and drive it! :D

Solicitors this Friday re my medical negligence claim, then we are house sitting in the hills not far away for 10 days before heading east.

We have had discussions about whether (as some say to us) this is a holiday. We say its a way of life! A holiday is when you do nothing....we keep busy and there's always jobs to do on car, caravan, just like having to keep a house maintained. And we sure have a list of jobs to do! Greg has a saying....I'll do it later...or tomorrow....
But sometimes it does get done!

Greg went to visit an old school mate a couple of days ago, to be told he is in hospital, in a vegetative state, having had a ruptured aorta and two strokes...we were both pretty upset...same age as Greg...grew up together....so we like to think we Re doing the right thing by doing what we are doing NOW as who knows what's around the corner?

Hoping Everyone reading this is enjoying life and living as much as we are!

Happy and safe travels

Well, we've finally escaped from renovating, weddings, etc! Heading towards the mob near Strathalbyn.

First stop was Derrinallum, stopped in the footy oval, gold coin donation. Well worth it, loos, water and flat. Fridge decided not to work on gas but duly fixed this morning. Lovely bright sunny wake up.
I saw a sign at Geelong that the Hamilton Highway was closed at Derry, but we kept going, and sure enough, it was. We were allowed in, apparently the road has been closed for a week, due to some bloke filling his house with explosives, threatening to blow up bald the town, finally blowing his house and himself up (so a local told us). Can't find anything in the news about it!

Then kept going along the Hamilton Highway, but the wind has been so strong that we eventually decided to ease up, and stop somewhere...so here we are at Wannan Falls camping area.... Decided it was not a good idea to park under a tree!

Ok, you probably know that those chinamen are still getting their revenge!

Just past Coleraine we were going along quite well, up a hill, and suddenly the engine stopped. Luckily we were able to coast until,we could get off the road. No sign from the gauge of overheating, but when Greg opened the bonnet clouds of steam! Waited. Added water. Clunk clunk from the engine...firing on five cylinders. Sounded expensive.

Decision made to turn round and limp back to our base in Westernport Bay. Last thing we want is to be stuck somewhere when we are just about to go to England.

Anyway.

Decided to head back via Great Ocean Road....it's flat (ish). Of course, the car started to fire on all six cylinders once we got going....so Greg is rethinking what might be wrong and he is now thinking it may be an oil seal gone in the turbo.
Our first stop was Killarney, and a lovely spot it is too. Stayed two nights. We are now in Princetown, at the recreation reserve, again a good spot, and jus 6 Kms from the Twelve Apostles, so today we had a lovely time walking around Loch Ard Gorge, and checking out the twelve....the place was chockers with tourists....and the helicopter rides were making a fortune! $145 pp for 15 minutes, 6 people each time, less than 5 minutes turnaround...you work it out!

Tomorrow we are going 66 Kms and stopping for two nights at Bimbi Park, near Apollo Bay. Then on to base camp.

We so missed seeing everyone at the gathering. But at least we are having a lovely time returning.

Cheers
Dee

It's amazing that two people survived ....the sea is very rough here!

Thanks Lorraine and Steve....we'll catch up....some day!

We are currently sitting in the Anglesea Top Tourist park, it's very good, not that we are availing ourselves of the facilities here....we will have a little game of mini golf when the RAIN STOPS!

We had a good stay at Bimbi Park in the Otways, but contrary to our memories....(senile decay), the Great Ocean Road is NOT flat, so we've had to go real carefully, as initially Greg thought it's a head gasket, now he's not sure, but we stop every half an hour to put more water in. And it handles the hills really well, and there's no sound that relates to what he thought it was.

Will be back in our base tomorrow, and then a week of packing, and sorting out "stuff", before heading to England for six months next week.

So future "where are you"s will be from sites in the UK. HEADING UP TO SCOTLAND FIRST.. temperatures there....11-14 during the day! So this is good practice!

Bimbi Park area is full of koalas! Play spot the koala in the photo!
