Rest day yesterday [washing etc] today a tour of Woolnorth, a property that original grant was 100,000 acres, but now only 50,000. Two large wind farms on the property which we visited and looking west at 41 degrees south, South America was 20,000 km away. Stopped at the homestead for morning tea then to Cape Grim and the Dough Boy Islands [Wind was about 40 knots from the SSW] the wind farm shuts down at 45 knots. Back to Homestead for a BBQ lunch [steak from the property]. After lunch off to Woolnorth point, on the left was the southern Ocean on the right was Bass Straight. Down onto the beach to visit the wreck of the Collett hit the reef in 1938 only thr boiler left rusting away. Seven hour day and worth it [$150]. Left Smithton now camped at Cape Rocky Tavern [free camp] for a couple of days while I check out Stanley and area. dinner in the Tavern [Bangers and mash $10].

Visited Stanley today, Boat trip to a close off shore island to a seal colony, good.
Visited a aquarium good. Visited Joe Lyons [only Tasmanian PM] cottage, closed.
Visited the Nut chair lift, closed.
Visited the Heritage museum, closed.
Visited Highfield House, open [only person there].
A day of rain and wind and no people about.

Peter,
If you're staying in the vicinity of Stanley, Joe Lyons' Cottage is worth the visit.
While there I spotted an item my mother had used in the kitchen when I was growing up. Staff were mystified as to its use. I was able to enlighten them: it was a two-handed steel dish-lifter for pulling hot baking dishes out of the oven. Particularly useful if the dish contained a large piece of meat.
And next time you're in Bathurst, make sure you visit Ben Chifley's house. There was only one tap in the house (kitchen) until his death. His widow added plumbing and a HWS to the bathroom... which is on the back verandah. Prior to that, the routine for a bath (no shower) was: fill pot with cold water in kitchen, boil it, carry it out to bath; refill pot with cold water, boil it, carry it out to the bath; repeat until bath at suitable level. And quite a chilly walk in winter!
I'm sure no other PM would have lived in such primitive conditions while in office! Partially explains why he only travelled home at weekends. Read Australia's Prime Ministers for hints at the other reason.

Friday 13th log [NO phone cover]

Misty rain, went to Stanley, Chair lift to top of “The Nut” Rain going up & Gale and rain coming down.
Lunch at Hursey’s seafoods. ½ doz Oysters, Seafood Chowder [to die for]. Back to Rocky Cape.
Packed up filled water etc, Drove to Myrtle Park Rec Ground [camps 6 #2] 32km NE of Launceston or 31km SW Scottsdale, beside the ST. Patricks River. Joined the FWN gathering [member #239].
One MH & six 5’ers here, pleasant evening around the choofer, [fire in old 9kg gas bottle].

Sat 14th
Cool morning but fine sunny day [got burnt on the face]. The men erected a tent for shade and wind protection. I put together my fire box, in the evening we lit the fire in it, good, but needs ash plate under it. Dinner was $10 prepared by one of the ladies. Homemade veg soup, Bacon & egg Pies, Pizza on toast, sausage rolls, meat pies & savoury scones. Plenty for seconds. Wait there’s more. Sweets, two sponge cakes, a tray of cream horns, small lemon tarts, a biscuit base with cream and Jelly on top, a biscuit base with chocolate on top, & a biscuit with 100s & 1000s on top, all served with fresh whipped cream.
Still daylight at 9pm when we retired after sitting around the fire talking.
Sun 15th
Lovely warm day 28oC in 5’er. Sat around talking checking others vehicles etc. Too warm for a fire tonight so packed away fire box. The other Travelhome [# 312] had to leave today , we all pack up in the morning. I have to call into Launceston to get my “U” bolts retightened. Then off to Wynyard to check that area out before heading down to Waratah.

Watch out how many times you re-tension those "U" bolts Peter. They only stretch so far!!
Sounds like a feed fit for a King that you (over) indulged in!!! (& Queen!)
