Re: Which Tablet
I guess it's case of living with the android limitation, spending up and buying something that works with a full computer operating system, or buying a toy that can do neat tricks but isn't really compatible with the main stream software available.
It's a usability and suitability issue all mixed up together. The choices are either:
limited to what is available
having a wide choice similar apps that better suits what you want
having the computing power to build the app to exactly what you want
I guess it's either tailoring the computer to suit you or tailoring your desires to what the computer can offer, it takes both kinds to make a world it seems and price is not the barrier it once was......
If I intended to spend the $$ asked for an Apple product I'd choose to spend that money on a real computer with real computing power, but that's just me

Re: Which Tablet
Basically the Android is the one WITHOUT the limitation. The Aple product won't run the software. But I am starting to edge towards the Samsung. I have a Samsung S3 smartphone and am very pleased with it. My son (Apple fanatic) is on his 4th or 5th iphone 5 over the same time period of me owning the samsung. He vigorously defends Apple saying things like "they are great because they will look after him". I say mine hasn't had a problem to look after
. But like I said earlier, I don't want this discussion to turn into an Apple vs Android thing. I know the Apple will not do what I need it to do and I am more than happy using a product that is not limited to apple compatible programs. It sort of reminds me of owning a VHS recorder and trying to use betamax

Re: Which Tablet
Shame you are not closer, you could try loading the software onto mine to see if it would run!
I went off the apple stuff when i bought my first smartphone, and discovered they are tied to the apple software. Thats taking two bites of the apple and is a monopoly in my book
I dont know about windows surface tablets, they have gps software, windows compatibility and the tablet portability.
Again, not cheap, but they seem solid in terms of quality. Windows 8 is clearly designed with touchscreens in mind.
Thecperfect combo in my book is an asus docking tablet, that is a windows pc in the dock, and an android tablet out. I bought last laptop about a month too early!

Re: Which Tablet
I ended up with the Samsung 10.1 2014 edition. It is very fast and I am familiar with the functions.

Re: Which Tablet
I bought a Kindle Fire, which at first glance appears to be Android's answer to the Mac iPad Mini.
However, it has serious shortcomings:
- WiFi only. No 3G or 4G. Had to set up my MacBook Pro as a WiFi hub... even then it doesn't always recognise the network.
- Tinny speakers. Best to listen to music on earphones...
- Amazon only. Received with it a DVD containing 30,000 FREE books... only they won't load onto the Fire! Kindle has been set up so that all purchased books - even FREE books - have to be downloaded from Amazon!
Other than that, seems OK. Pix display well, although I've seen some of my pix on an Apple Retina screen... like the difference between Standard & High Definition on TVs.
When I grow up, I'm gonna get an iPad Mini...

Re: Which Tablet
Good choice Craig, hopefully it will do all you want, and already having a phone of the same brand will speed up the learning curve!

Re: Which Tablet
Cmon Ray, you have to compare Apple with apples
. A Kindle is simply a book reader, isn't it? And as Kindle has been around for many years, I reckon they aren't an answer to anything apple and are out on their own
Do they use Android operating system?

Re: Which Tablet
It is very similar to the phone and has been a very easy learning curve. It is very fast as it has 3gig RAM and 1.9gig quad core processor.dapope wrote:Good choice Craig, hopefully it will do all you want, and already having a phone of the same brand will speed up the learning curve!
