We have looked at a future with robots, that's very hi tech stuff and well out of the range of the average person.
But what about toys/ There are some amazing toys with incredible ability that are available to the kid next door or anyone in fact. Do you remember a movie where a kid flies a model plan and gets the bad guys. Have a look at what "Juz" can do

They can be made as tri, quad, hex and octo copters, (8 motors) or more, the system has merit in replacing full-size helicopters when battery technology improves. This cuts out the need for a tail rotor like a normal Heli and provides redundancy for systems / motor failure.

The model quadcopter has a little security / reversal type camera feeding into a transmitter, this sends signal back to a set of goggles with little LCD screens in them. You are flying the thing just like sitting in it, kind of an out-of-body experience, its unbelievable. The actual footage is usually recorded on a gopro type HD camera and downloaded later, edited, music added etc for what you see on youtube.
The footage you see in the goggles is not quite as good, YET, bet still quite good. There is a lot of nonsense running the media about spying and privacy but in my experience it is all rubbish, you could do more with a quality camera on an extending pole if you wanted to.
Its a great thing for campsites, you get a whole new perspective on the surrounds. A generic off-the-shelf type "DJI" quad has been embraced recently by Gavin on Hobohome http://www.hobohome.com/index.php
