Have just finished cleaning up the wheel nuts on the Discovery. Soaked them over night in Rust Converter in glass jar, came up really great after flush with water and dried off.
It might work for you too.

Some time back I put together cranes for use in marine environments. We used to get all the nuts and bolts coated with molybedenum disulfide ("moly or "molybond")
The coating gives an attractive dark grey / black finish that is suitable for quite a few impact wrench style tightenings and rated to "salt 5" (wont rust)
It also provides excellent lubricating qualities so if used on wheel nuts, keep track of the nut position but they will run in well.
