Tips for conserving water when travelling

Drop in and dribble on about nothing serious. Seriously a mad place to hang out. Better to avoid it if you're not in the mood!!! If you're determined to be sad, bad, mad & angry then move along!!!

Interesting that in a thread on conserving water, most posts refer to showering.
There is one thing which helps conserve water better than anything else.

When travelling we are almost always in 'water conservation mode' & can last up to two weeks on our tanks of 160 litres in total. We use a 2 litre ice cream tub with an inch or two of water in it to have sponge baths with, but will swim in creeks, river & sea when we can. 'Wet wipes' are also very handy. We are also not averse to being a bit grubby now & again.

So what is it that is the biggest saver of water?

We have a second water source outlet in our shower, when river, creek water is available we boil up same place in large pail out side, place bilge pump in same & shower away.
Bilge pump is permanently connected to hose to drop into water & we just unscrew shower from one fitting & connect to the other, easy, saves our supply in the tanks.
The whole set up is plumbed into the bus.

I'm now 87 years old, having experienced another birthday, and I'm still living in WA, single (gave up looking), white hair, no teeth, no money, no worries.
I plan to have another birthday next year.

Bath once a month... whether you need it or not! eh, Cuppa?

We alternate two 'Top & Tail' ablutions (also known in various part of Oz as the 'Shearer's Shower' or 'Bushie's Bath' - depending how far out you are into the outback - and if you're in sheep or cattle country) - and one 'proper' two-stage shower as already described. ;)

We also carry 2x 10 litre casks of 'bought' water from Coles/Woolies/wherever for tea/coffee/cooking. Aqium saves a lot of hand-washing after toileting, too.

We can last 2 weeks before needing to top up the 180 litre water tank. That's the limiting factor. Blackwater holding tank is good for much more, and greywater can be safely drained in appropriate bush away from watercourses. Batteries on solar - no worries there. LED lights help.
Regards & God bless,
Ray

I put up a post that vanished earlier, will blame vodafail for that one.
We have a smaller tub that sits in the sink to do dishes. Means we can also water the bushes if its not too soupy, otherwise we hold it in the grey tank. Dishes only get a washup once a day as well. We also have a 200l bladder, plus a small pump which gives us a greater capacity as required.

Paper towels also negate some washing up which is only done once a day in a small bowl. Going naked also saves water but you may need to stock up on sterile water for the flushing of eyes.
