Peter I'm sorry I never got back to you in a timely fashion. Internet has been very iffy....... even for Bigpond at times.
My Optus is OK at the moment early in the morning up on top deck of the boat.
I think most here at Wongulla intend being here till at least Tuesday & a couple (including the boat) will be here till Wednesday or THursday.
Terry intends going from here down to a 'dig' at Hahndorf & then work his way back to Taggery eventually. (JonD's)
We'd love you to pop in if you can fit it in.
Be warned........ no potable water and little food supplies close by!!!

Hi Alan, [Road Boss]
Well you missed one of the best days of the Safari. The Boat trip was excellent and is a must to be included in the next Safari.
The bus took us to the wharf at 1115 hours [where we had a wait as the boat was not due till 1200 hours [noon].
But from then on it was great, motored down to the Barrage and thru the lock, there were NZ fur seals laying there and just floating in the water [good photo]. Neil the deck hand served lunch a cold salad with 4 different meats, cold slaw, lettuce, tomato, egg, pasta cuecumber, cheese biscuits, a chocolate and a bread roll each meal served in an individual container to each person, tea or coffee. Jock [skipper and owner] took the boat right out almost into the white water [breakers] into the entrance of the Murray.
We moved down a bit away from the white water and beached the boat everyone got off and walked around to the entrance [not me] after re-boarding we went further down stopped again allowing people to walk [not me] via a board walk to the ocean beach in the NP. All back on board and Neil served coffee/tea and biscuits, then motored thru the marina area of Hindmarsh Island.
Everyone claimed it as the best day ever.
Back at the wharf the bus took us back to the CP for happy hour, where some of us said our goodbyes as we part company in the morning.

Re: Pet-els touring
Sounds like a pearler of a day Peter.
If that was Jock Veenstra then you were in very good hands indeed.
My school friend....
He built nearly all the bigger boats you see on the Murray.
Murray River Queen.
Proud Mary.
Murray Princess amongst them.
Were you surprised what the actual mouth of our great river looked like? Many imagine it to be kms across & very deep.
Any photos?

Re: Pet-els touring
Well finally got the computer working.
Left Goolwa for morning tea at Adrian & Criena Kemp's place [palace] at Middleton SA, after we sat and talked then out of nowhere Criena served a massive dinner [5 visitors] big thanks to her.
His big 5'er fits inside one of his garages.
After lunch [1530] I drove to Ashbourne and met up with Dot & George, Bruce & Kay, Bob & Lyn, Chuck and Katrina. Stayed there for 4 nights [lunch each day at "The Greenman Inn"] very good. Left there on Tuesday morning for Murray Bridge, laundromat, Woolies & Telstra [half comp fixed two working sort of] then on to Wongulla [Walkers Flat area & no internet] & met up with Bruce (S) and Wendy, Terry (T1) and Margaret, Brian (homeless) and Jenny, Brad and Ann-Marie and Eddie. Visited the house boat [and fell out of the dingy on land
] stayed o'nite and moved on to Tununda CP, Terry, Brian and Brad also for the next two nights. Wine cellars tomorrow.

"tanks" here--- Pet-als You can count your blessings, being able to have a face to face with so many wonderful people in such enjoyable and friendly circumstances must be one of them. Over here in the West I never get to see anybody from the Forum and I have to be content with the typed words as a means of communication. I'm not complaning about my lot --I'm driving 1,700 km to meet some of the mob in a few weeks [I hope "WEEZANIKINOFF" has not nicked off yet] and then another 1,700 km to get back to base after observing "Our Dots Great Shave". As my Grandfather told me--The road to the place of a friend is always a short distance.
Keith.
I'm now 87 years old, having experienced another birthday, and I'm still living in WA, single (gave up looking), white hair, no teeth, no money, no worries.
I plan to have another birthday next year.

I checked with the Google Oracle - the Murray mouth was closed over in 1981, so that's the year I took the photo.SteveW wrote:Here's one I prepared earlier. I think it was 1984 ish.
Viewing the photo, the Murray, as it was, is on the left of the photo and the ocean is on the right. It was the first occasion since European settlement that the mouth of the Murray was closed. Of course the end of the world was predicted.

Peter, what was wrong with your computer? Steven at the GMI asked where you were as he had a special to try out on you.

Some how the WPA [wireless security key] was changed, I think when I bought the computer at Robinvale.
The Telstra [Australian] tech said he had never had that before. All good now.

PS. whats a GMI ?
