seat belts

Post by BernieQ2 »

Don't know if this is the right area but, with seat belts the 'norm' is passengers seat belt comes from the left to the right and drivers the reverse.
Now my question, do they have to be so? is there a law (Qld) that says that is how it has to be.
Can one have the drivers seat belt come from left to right. (must clarify the seats have belts on board lap, no sash)
Personally I cant see a problem, and before some one says any thing about having a accident the release would be on the wrong side they cut the belts they don't even try to release them.
Opinions please.
Bernie.

I assume there is no prob with this, Bernie.
I had two extra seatbelted seats installed in a Coaster dinette some years ago.
Engineer was more interested in how sturdily the seat base-frames were anchored (direct to chassis) rather than which way the sash part went.
As it turned out, the only way outboard sash could be secured was over right shoulder of occupant. (To the left I would have needed a sky-hook! ) So I installed two 'driver-style' belts as you would have in a sedan.
Engineer could not see a problem with this. So I assume the reverse is also true.

Good luck...
Regards & God bless,
Ray

If I bump into my 'engineer' in Maryborough today I will run it by him.

Qld rules   Bernie we only have to have lap belts due to the age of the bus. Really cant see any probs where they clip as long as they are anchored correctly. :D
