Weeeeee, after ordering it on the 16th May they are now ready to deliver it, on Thursday/Friday just before the long weekend and our little trip south.

My new laptop computer was suppossed to be here by now, an email to Dell, revised delivery is now July  seems they can't get some part. It's either the back lit keyboard or the 17in anti glare screen I think. it comes with both Windows 7 and Windows 8.1, as I have to learn a new operating system anyway, will the step from XP to 8.1 be mind numbing, should I just aim for 7 first?

Terry I'd advise you to go direct to 8.1.
7 is just a jazzed up version of XP anyway in my opinion.
With 8.1 you can install a small program to allow you to use it like your old XP but it seems silly to me if you do.
Learn it once & it's done.
A heap of shortcuts & other help available now too.
It doesn't have a touch screen does it?

PS: Russell is that 27"? You sure? bloody big lappy!!!

Don't fully agree Bruce I find this w8 a piece of crap it doesn't do what I want it to. I prefer outlook express for my mail but W8 wont allow it amongst other stuff that I don't care for.
I don't use [apps] and this W8 wants me to use them.

Is that W8 or 8.1 Bernie? I use Outlook Express full time so I'd be lost if that didn't work, it's the first thing fired up after a shut down/reboot, once a mth generally  get's a bit slow if I don't.
