Swithcing off the mains

Post by Dot »

Put a call into the solar people but no call returned. :?
Want to know if we switch the power off at the mains and if doing this will it also stop the solar feeding into the grid or any damage to anything?

I would be turning off everything else but the mains. You should get a nice credit after you get back.

I usually put a portable light on my timer switch.
Turns on at 6PM and off at 11PM every night.
Put it in your lounge room or where ever you usually have a light on now.

Be sure it's a timer with a battery back up. The trick often used is to turn the mains off for a few hrs so the light timer goes oiut of sequence, then they know it's a bluff and simply ignore it.

I use these too, but doubt their value. I know of a vacant house where the same light goes on at the same time - dur, it's a no brainer.

Dot, there is a sequence to turning off solar (this should be on a tag attached to your inverter)
1. turn off solar supply main switch at switchboard
2. turn off ac supply at inverter (if fitted)
3. turn of DC solar supply

buuut I would definitely be leaving it on and get some $ credits

Thanks fellas, will do as instructed, leave mains on but turn off all appliances and unplug em all. Going out for tea tonight, we have earned it. Plus don't want to dirty up things again
