Running heater From Alternator?
Would the motorhome's 24volt alternator with an 80amp output have the capacity to power the fridge on 240v using 1.4amps/325w plus a 1000w heater via the two 200 A/H AGM Batteries and the inverter with a continuous rating of 1500w a max output of 1725w and a surge rating of 3000w?

We run ours. No guarantee on your system though. I set it so its not on maximum heat, that way the systems not getting a constant flogging

Re: Running heater From Alternator?
It would run from the inverter while the eng was running at fast idle, but AGM batteries on their own won't run that much load for very long before they were fully discharged. you would need lithium batteries if you wanted to power that sort of heavy load.

So when driving along mostly around 2500rpm's then it would be ok for a while?? Just thinking it would be nice on these cool mornings to start off with warm feet. (The fridge doesn't run all the time either)

Doesn't the bus heater work Dottie? The system would be ok while you were driving, it will be drawing around 65 amps from the alternator though so best get George to check what the rated output of the alternator is. Best not to exceed 60% of it's rated output for long periods, but 20 mins should be ok, then turn the heater down to a lower setting.
Bugga, just reread your opening post and you said it was 80 amps there so a 60% load would only be 48 amps, the 65 amp load would be up around the 80% of capacity mark, so the 20 min figure should still be ok, but don't push it too far past that running at full output, they get hot and burn out

Re: Running heater From Alternator?
We run ours on the bottom setting when its pulling 65or so amps at 12v which is half that at 24v so maybe.......
