I think you had better revisit your installation Shonky, it has all the classic symptoms of incorrect wiring, the load is appearing as charging, the charging is appearing twice giving you a very high reading, you can't blame the unit if it wasn't fitted correctly

I used to work with a bloke who swore his Skoda made petrol. His gauge turned out to be faulty. I reckon T1 is on to it
