"tanks" Stand Down for repairs.

Drop in and dribble on about nothing serious. Seriously a mad place to hang out. Better to avoid it if you're not in the mood!!! If you're determined to be sad, bad, mad & angry then move along!!!

"tanks" Stand Down for repairs.

Post by Keith Morris »

"tanks" here-- UPDATE:-
Well folks, here I sit [stewing] while the Sprinter is in sick bay at the Mercedes Commercial Automotive workshop in Malaga, waiting for parts. The problem was diagnosed as a faulty Diesel Fuel Cut-Off Valve. It is good to know what is faulty with the valve and not the Fuel Pump.
BACKGROUND:
After a diagnostic run at 40 Mile Beach by a mechanic to reset the on-board computer Engine Management System {EDC fault] I was told it won't run and I had to take the Sprinter to Karratha to the workshop to have a new Fuel Pump unit fitted.

Bob (Forumites Bob & Bev) made a towing hitch thingo with the help of half the campsite residents and the Sprinter was prepared for the tow/trip from 40 Mile Campsite to Karratha Industrial Area; a distance of approx 70 km. *see previous posted departure pics.
The tow went well and instead of the 45-50 km/hr we thought safe, we were able to cruise along at 80 km/hr on the hi-way without impeding on any of the road trains.

The mechanic had ordered a pump from Perth and it had arrived in Karratha by express consignment. The wrong model pump was ordered and the pump sent from Perth was not suitable for my model motor, and I was presented with an invoice for a labour charge of $870.00.

I had a Committee Meeting with "Russell" and Mr. Ron Mundy a local resident. We decided to send the Sprinter to Perth on a drop-deck low loader, where we could have an EXPERIENCED Sprinter mechanic work on the motor. I had a quote of $850.00 but the trailer needed would not be in Karratha for 10 days. A second quote was for $3,800.00 and 2 days before loading. The third quote was for $1,250 with upload in 45 minutes. It was 2.30 pm Friday afternoon so make a quick decision and give the ok to the transport company to load the Sprinter. The drop-deck arrived at 3:00pm and was clear of the workshop at 3:15pm with the Sprinter on the way to Perth.

Prior to all of this activity, I realised that I still had a car freezer full of Weis Bars and Fillet Steak and frozen vegies. A quick phone call to Bob [thinking that Bev was still shopping in Karratha] to take the frozen things back to 40 Mile with him. As it turned out Bob & Bev were already back at 40 Mile campsite.. What does Bob do----He drives the 70 km back to Karratha with a spare car freezer and off-loads all of the Weis Bars etc and heads back to 40 Mile.

I was then left out on the street with "Russell" on a lead, and me with a plastic shopping bag with a few pair of Jocks and a change of trousers. I could get a seat on Qantas or Virgin on the 5:00-pm flight but neither airline could take "Russell". The next available flight was on Sunday afternoon. Qantas wanted $780:00 for the flight plus extra for "Russell", and Virgin settled for $320 plus &75 for "Russell" with a $50.00 dog crate charge.
(NO WONDER PEOPLE GO TO BALI FOR A WEEK IN A 5 STAR ACCOMMODATION RESORT AND AIR FARES INCLUDED FOR AROUND $400 RETURN AIRFARE Incl) .

KEN TAME INSURANCE came to the party and have already refunded the towing charges as per my Policy.
THANK YOU KEN TAME !!!

I now sit in the Wheatbelt with heavy rain and cold cold nights and days waiting to hear from the mechanic to inform me that the new control valve has arrived from Singapore. (Mercedes don't have one in Australia). It should only take a few hours to tit the new valve and I will be on the road again heading for 40 Mile Beach.
WATCH THIS SPACE FOR THE LATEST DEVELOPMENTS
Keith.

I feel for you Tanks but at least they are on to it and you'll be mobile again soon. We are currently motorhomeless as well as our MH is in the spray painters having a facelift. It has been there for a month. Maybe another week and we should have her back.
Take care and we'll talk soon

It could be worse Tanks, but I can understand the frustration. We had our diff leak sorted today, but I need a new rear disc rotor, and pads and a kit for one caliper. The mechanic we found in Geraldton seems pretty good, roadrunner mechanical repairs. Set up for managing trucks, so our unit fits right in. We will get our bits sorted in about 3 weeks, next time we are through.

"tanks" here---
Thanks for your kind remarks and encouragement folks.

To add to my problems is that the 40 Mile campsite officially closes on 28th of this month.
As I was only going to be away in Karratha for 4 hours I left my u-beaut trailer and a lot of other camping gear on site.

The 40 Mile Forum Members and Leon the Caretaker are keeping an eye on my things for me during my absence [while they are there] for which I am very thankful. Bob & Bev have told me that they will be at the site 'till the end of this month. I hope they don't run out of Weis Blocks.
I want to get a little more time up in the Nor-West before my "holiday" is over, and I have myself back on the track with "Russell" again.

Hi Dot,
re [Another snake visited Blue & Anns van.] Did it travel under the van, ( in our case some years ago, saw a snake go under the vans step then under the van and out the other side) or was the visit a lot closer ie into the annex or caravan.

Hi Peter, the first wriggly stick went right under Ann's chair while she was sitting in the annex, that was the one that ended up half the snake it was. The other was a baby about 1ft long, still lurking in the bush next to their van. :D
