Inverter giving grief

Post by shonky »

Hi, all.

Bought a Projecta 300w pure sine wave inverter 18 months ago, solely for the iMac and light power tools, and recently it's warning beeper started up and it shut down a minute or so later. Good heavy cables going to it, but while it was warmish the fan did not start up. This problem was fairly frequent in the following few days.
Upon phoning Projecta direct they sent a replacement inverter under their 2year warranty which was fine for two weeks before displaying the same symptoms. The sales bloke at Projecta then had a long discourse with their engineers who decided it may have been a component issue. At time of writing the inverter is chugging along quite happily, powering the iMac and a 230v fan aimed straight at it, and I expect to pick up the replacement 600w inverter from Australia Post.

Good response from Projecta IMHO.

A very good response and result, great to hear about a company doing the right thing.

Hi, all.

So I rock into Australia Post Gympie North this morning and was told the satchel would have gone to Gympie Central. Damn. I love this town. So asked there - have you a tracking number? Phoned my good buddy at Projecta, who had initially addressed the satchel to Rainbow Beach b4 the midges arrived, and subsequently re-routed the said satchel to Gympie North upon my request. He obtained the tracking number, which I gave to the Gympie Central staff. After a long time on their computer terminal I was advised that, yes, the satchel arrived at Gympie North, and was sent to Rainbow Beach. Should they send it to Goomeri, our next point of call ? The satchel is now due for collection at Gympie North tomorrow morning.

Must mention again the excellent assistance given by Projecta. Might even offer my services should they have any new equipment that needs testing to destruction.

Hi, all.

So I installed the You Beaut 600w charger and all was fine till this morning when half the smoke came out of it. The only load was 2 external hard drives.
Watch this space.

Charger or inverter Bruce?
Really starting to sound like a Gremlin in your setup somewhere?
Mate across the road has a new Projector ready to install in his homemade, aluminium outback camping trailer........ I wonder? mmmm!
I'll pop over & see the model number on it!

Hi, all.

BruceS - do gremlins hibernate for 18mths then turn savage?
Note I've now had problems with the 300w and 600w models, and the only loads are the washing machine, the iMac which works great on any power source, and a couple of hard drives. Maybe there's a squashed chinaman back there somewhere.

Hi, all.

BruceS - after chatting with Shane at Projecta I took the charger apart and found a burnt out mosfet. Should have been the first place I looked, right?
New inverter on the way, thank you Projecta.
