Post by Dot »

have been listening to some DVD's before they are to be put into the op shop for sale, There is a couple that seem to jump a few lines but the majority of tracks is ok. Q/ Is there any product that you know of that may improve this ? :? a cleaner or something?

Sounds more like music CD's Dot?
I've got a couple like that too. They are bought discs but I suspect counterfeit copies.
Best to hang them in your fruit trees perhaps?

CD's read from the centre out, so take a guestimation of how far through the CD the error occurs and then try to figure out how far from the centre to the outside the CD would have that bit of music recorded. Look closely around this area for dirty bits in the disc or deep scratches, dirty bits will clean out under warm water and dishwashing liquid and dried with a soft towel or eye glass cloth, light scratches will polish out but deep scratch means they are stuffed.

My experience has been that a deep scratch that penetrates down to the "foil" will stuff the cd/dvd. A deep but thin scratch that does not penetrate the "foil" may not cause a problem. However, a broad scratch, even if it is very shallow, will interfere with the reproduction. So as long as the "foil" is not damaged there is some chance that fine polish will cure the problem.

Thank you boys, In the morning I shall give it (the CD) a gentle soapy wash, a gentle dry with a soft cloth then a nice buff up then see if it will play as it is supposed to.
