I don't think its a law in Qld . If so its not policed.
I wont need brake on SGV because of my bus weight. same ratio as a unbraked trailer [under 750 kilo] no need for brakes.

Re: Dot & Georges .
Just remember when you pass through NSW that they might pick on you because you don't have a brake - the exemption on vehicle to a-framed vehicle ratio does not apply there. You might try to argue your way out of it based on your constitutional right to free trade and intercourse between the States - but they might not allow you to continue.

Yes I know that Steve but they are suppose to honour other state rules.
Or we would have to put a fence up on each boarder.
Is your Terios braked? What's the ratio?
Bernie.
Don't know if Carol would let me do that intercourse stuff? (could tell her its the rooools)

Ha Ha.
Mine is a 5 tonne GVM with a 6 tonne GCM and 1200kg towing max. The Terios weighs 1000kg and I carry the Engel 40l fridge plus deep cycle battery, so let's say 1100kg. I have weighed the Fiat loaded, fully fueled and watered and it comes in at 4800kg. So overall I just sneak in.
I use the Hitch 'n Go and I have the over-run cable brake set up. My observation is that the cable movement under braking is so minimal that the brake on the Terios cannot engage. I don't bother to connect the cable because I am within the rules of the ratio, however, I do carry the cable with me - just in case.

Re: Dot & Georges .
Yes Steve have a few mates do just that. My bus has only one weight the 9.3 ton nothing above nothing below.
It has been plated twice once when new [cab chassis three seat] and again when converted to school bus 44 plus 4 standing, but the 9.3 stayed the same?
Know of one that went hydraulic and now doesn't connect ?
The set up took to long.

I just don't want to be held accountable IF there was ever a misadventure that could have been avoided by being totally within all the road user guidelines or what ever they are called.. Geoff aka Boblebago got pulled up in WA for something along the lines of the brake issue I reckon???? For our bus the engineer wanted the engine specs, the diff ratios, the gear ratios and also the tow ball "strength"
then he does all the calculations and bingo a yes or a no. He is sending the new amended compliance plates He is also the engineer that saw all the extra chassis strength that went into this bus of ours so he knew how she has been improved and safe she is now.. We have a friend with a 9 mt bus, and he tows an 8mt trailer, within the trailer is the car washing machine, tools by the tray load plus copious amounts of shite and they wonder why they virtually have to go up any slight incline just about in reverse. If not dangerous then bloody stupid IMHO who knows nil of specs but I do like safety esp when I am involved.. I still think there should be no borders when it comes to road rules etc..

Here is what I posted back in September
"Just evaded the long arm of the law regarding our towing hitch, conversation goes "is the towing hitch certified" I say "not required in SA", "is the vehicle braked" "not required as meets SA requirements 3 1/2 to 1 weight ratio" policeman says "it's another country here and if you were heading into Perth we would take it further but as you are heading home you can go"
Apparently a motor home with a towed vehicle went around a corner and the hitch broke and the car went into a shop.
He had no intention of letting us head towards Perth if we were heading that way, and was only interested in the towing hitch.
I have a copy of a towing pamphlet some where could be on my old laptop will try to find it.
Regards Geoff

Hi Dot
Did you look at the Roadmaster Invisibrake, it goes under the front seat of the car and is operated electrically.

Re: Dot & Georges .
Does anyone remember what norman said about how to fix the alignment difference between the Japanese roads and the Aust roads (the different camber) have noticed the outside front passenger tyre is a wee bit more worn. Have always said that when driving the bus heads to the left.. Rang the mob that does home alignments.... starts at $600 and goes to $800
So rang where we used to take the winnie and he tells me they now have a mobile unit, see what they have to say when he rings back in the morn. (roughly $230 pr axle) ... just when you need that old shepherd he is off fishing, again
