It now appears you are climbing on a high horse, the question was asked for clarification of exactly what you were asking, here's a link, pick which one you are referring to and see where we can go from there http://electrical-engineering-portal.co ... b-and-rccb
A person may fail many times, they only become a failure when they blame someone else John Burrows

Hi Sunnykidssunnykids wrote:Admin, I suggest you close the 240v heading on this forum if the discussion is going to degenerate in what we should or should not be doing. I am a 60yr old who has been working on 12v, 50v & 240V most of my working life. I don't need to be told how to go about it when that is not the question I asked ??? I don't understand why on most forums, when 240v is mentioned, all the do gooders come out of the wooodwork with their 2 bob's worth. It seems this forum has attracted the same group ??????
This is a forum, not a private conversation .
Care needs to be taken on what is posted, since some may then ASSUME they know it ALL
& attempt to work on their own units
That IS why I made the Statement
[Quote}"I certainly will not assist some one to carry out illegal electrical work over the net!!!"[end quote]
It was a general statement for ALL readers not to you personally

Your post did not indicate the extent of your now claimed knowledge
Although I am not certain as to just what you mean by "working on 240V" ARE you a licensed electrician??
If I had known, I may have PMed you a given private advise ,as I often do WHEN I am convinced it is safe , advisable to do so
Any RESPONSABLE Electrician or gas fitter would have the same attitude , as both elevtric & gas can be dangerous & deadly !!
Surely you , knowing the dangers, would understand THAT

May I suggest you try the same question on an electricians forum??
A quick search will reveal several, it is advisable to give an outline of your quals, or you may get a short shift

Peter

Re: caravan/mobile home cct breakers
I only watch the electrical threads to see the sparing.
I have a bus that works and I am happy and I can read the AMPS in and the AMPS out from my PL40, if more in than out then I am happy.
At the moment watching the water heater cycles ticking over so hot shower tonight. That's what counts, if it works it is working and I am happy, I don't want to worry about getting a calculator out to see if it is working. More in than out, all is good. More out then in then just watch to see that I still have some SOC left, I know how many AHs I have lost and roughly remember till the IN is more again.
KISS is the best method. Leave the fancy stuff to the people who want it. I prefer to just enjoy what I have and do other thinks to make life interesting.
Yesterday followed the trains as fire control and saw the railways as others don't. Today bus driver up to the street. Life is not complicated, just settle back and enjoy the roses or the beers or the chocolates or the view OR WHAT EVER.
Regards
Brian

How does a TV work? heck, I'm not going to try and build one...as an example!
I understand your point & see no problem with general info
But detailed info can be put together by someone who then THINKS they KNOW ALL that is required & then attempts the work
I have seen the results

Yes, I am suspicious of such posts & am very careful not to give too much details, especially over an open forum
I would hate to think that any of my posts may lead to some one's loss of property or death.

Hi Terry
A good link BUT

Quote •"ELCB is the old name and often refers to voltage operated devices that are no longer available and it is advised you replace them if you find one."end quote]
In Aus the early RCDS [around very early 60s]were referred to as ELCB circuit breakers [Earth Leakage core balance, circuit breakers] they did not have /need an earth connection in the breaker .
I doubt that a ELCB [with an earth connection]was ever used in general instalations in Aus

Everyone, even me can give their personal view on any subject, the thing to remember is that it is up the individual to make up their own mind what they do with any info gleaned from what has been given.. so with that, I say "play nicely everyone."

Re: caravan/mobile home cct breakers
OK, I'm locking this thread.
A person asked a very civil question and that in itself demands a civil answer or no answer at all.
The copy he asked for is (apparently?) not available for general public viewing & therefore the simple answer should have been "sorry, no".
Any other answer is not needed.
Sorry all but I'm not letting this type of discussion do what has happened elsewhere.
This is a warning. Next time I will immediately delete 'off topic' answers.
