Anyone have suggestions on how I get our electric step up & running again?
It worked OK last week.
Now it has gone on strike.
Trigger is a magnetic microswitch attached to flyscreen frame.
Can't work out how to check it. Magnet is on door; trigger mech on frame.
At this stage, getting an auto elec to replace switch is not on the agenda, funds-wise.
The Chairman will now recognise any suggestions from the floor...

Re: Electric Steps
Time you installed a small 'bypass' switch Ray, so you can manually switch it.
I'm guessing you can't easily access the two wires behind the magnetic switch? If you can, try shorting them wires together.
Must be limit switches as well to stop it when down? Maybe that one is stuck open?
Multi meter to follow the sparks?

Re: Electric Steps
Have you checked the blade fuse at the 12v switchboard?

Re: Electric Steps
Yes. The steps retract when ignition key turned to ON or Start. No key in ignition, control is passed to microswitch on door.Dot wrote:Ours was wired into the ignition Ray as well as a manual switch near the door is yours the same?
Have checked this as potential prob.
Will check fuse & then power source today. Wires @ microswitch are well insulated. Might be fun accessing with multimeter probes!
Will leave checking beyond there to a professional, esp the crawling-under-Girt bits!

Re: Electric Steps
Ray, you should also have an override switch beside the door (inside) to turn off override switch action

We do. Leaves steps out when camped, if so desired.
Tried flicking that... no action.

Re: Electric Steps
I have had the joy of repairing our steps a couple of times when the cam decided it would break and having bought a replacement found that the new ones are poor quality compared to the old. The electrical is in four parts 1.ignition 2.override switch 3. limit switch on door 4.control box (mounted above steps) Any of 2,3 and 4 could be the issue, but having had experience with the light switches, my first guess would be the connections on the back of the override switch. Anyway, that's the easiest to check.
