Dot, you should have had the wheel alignment done in Perth, Drive Safe where Martin sent me can bend the axle without removing it, cost about $800.
We had the alignment checked and luckily didn't need axle bending the alignment hardly needed adjusting, tyre wear was due to under inflation.
When we had new tierod ends replaced in Tassie they did the wheel alignment using a tape measure.

We have the airbag susp on the front axle and that is the reason why the thing would have to come out. IF we didn't have the air susp then he was going to charge $600. No one has a better name than Hancock & Just in this business

As said, check the fuel flow we had the same problem last year coming home in the Civilian turned out to be a bit of the fuel cap rubber had decided to come off and lodge itself in the fuel line. When we stopped for a while then resumed the drive it would be ok for a while then down to gutless again.
Stuck the air hose in the end near the engine and gave it a quick burst, never had a problem after that.
May help?
Bernie.
