hope you don't mind me using your Banal Chat thread Dot.
WE lost contact with some good friends around 10 years ago.
We have been (read her) cleaning up our spare room for the arrival of the G/Kids.
While going thru some old paper work destined for the rubbish bin I found a old telephone number from said friends.
So what was one to do, so I rang the number and low and behold old mate answered...bonus.
Turns out that he now has Parkinsons and as he was his carer for his wife (blind) the rolls have been reversed she is now his carer...bloody cruel world.
But they are a remarkable couple, nothing seems to hard still full of s##t and quick back with the answers. They have their property on the market as its now beyond them to manage. They were always glad to see any one who visited and believe me you needed a good excuse to leave, Carol and I spent many a weekend with them.
We spoke for over a hour on the phone reminiscing as you do. Would you believe she mows the lawn when he cant, told me she know where all the trees are cause she hits them ever time and some times she mows the same bit over and over.
True friends and a inspiration to all that meet them.
Glad I rang that number.
Bernie and Carol .

Re: Lost friends
Bloody ripper Bernie, those friends sound like they are really tough cookies and good on them for not doing what so many do and that is to quit too soon but if their time is right to downsize then it means they are ready to do it for them. Where do they live? I bet they have heaps of laughs during the mowing sessions. Did you arrange to meet up again with them? Bernie any and all subjects are welcome here.
Funny how things turn up out of the blue I have had 3 of those things lately, first was when we arrived at the desalt plant at 40 mile beach, we were waiting for the Chuck mobile to fill his water tanks when I saw the brand name of a caravan I recognised coming towards us, as it passed I realised it was an old school friend from the 60's, caught up with her at 40mile. Then last Thursday had a ph call from (wait for it) My very first serious boyfriend asking if we could meet up in the city as he and his niece were on a cruise and spending the day in Adelaide. Needless to say we didn't catch up but we will at Xmas.
Then there was another weird renewal of friendship, In 2003 we met a lovely Italian couple and we hit it off straight away and we kept in touch for yrs during that time she was diagnosed with MS then we lost touch as her comp went missing and at the same time mine spat the dummy so we lost contact then bugga me last week an email turns up without her name on it so as you do jumped to the conclusion she had popped off but I replied as if all was good. Turns out she is still here lots of things have changed but they are still plodding along and we shall be catching up as soon as we can before things really do go pear shaped. Come on you lot need some more re union stories..... Thanks Bernie
