I don't think it would work up here Terry, for the last month we have been in the high 30's to the low 40's.
If your only sucking hot air that's all you get.
Give me a aircon in Qld.
Oddly enough I bought my aircon from a gentleman in NSW who done what you are doing, but he doesn't come north.
Bernie.
Replaced the air con with a fan vent.

T1 , After you have finished making Margarets raised garden bed and if you can still count to ten do you reckon you could wander outside and take some photos of this arrangement when the install is complete. I have been thinking about something like this for ages and it appears to tick most of the required boxes.
Cheers

You should be able to get them from the conmen up there that do the imported bus conversions.. They sold our big air con diesel motor to a farmer without our knowledge so they certainly would have those vents..

With a bit of luck that should be tomorrow, still got all the fingers and the cutting part is finished, the banging the posts into the ground didn't go well so the assembly part has been postponed till tomorrow.

Ow'd you manage that? Every time I try it comes out in blobs.T1 Terry wrote:... now have an even coating of Sikaflex,

What'd you expect with everything having to be PC these daze.

Always swore that next time the a/c unit gives up, it would be replaced with a vent. Not wanting to leave the generator out all night, the only time a/c is useful is when you have mains power.

Re: Replaced the air con with a fan vent.
Certainly the best move I've made as far as mods on the Mazda. On a hot night we run the fan on "in" at around 10% to 15% speed, produces a nice cool breeze over the bed making sleep possible. Even on power the aircon blew the air along the roof line, not down across the bed and it was so noisy sleep would have been disturbed all night. We added the "MaxxAir" vent cover so the hatch could stay open even in the rain. It does have an auto close if it detects rain and that worked well, but on a sticky humid night and it starts to rain, the vent shuts, fanstops and the humidity went sky high. now with the vent cover we can leave it open and running on around 20% "out" even while we are driving, keeps the cat cool while sleeping on the bed
And... the big plus, solved the water leak once and for all, the water was working it's way uder te gasket seal between the air con and roof and dripping on the bed.
Some photos
the original air con cover inside
the fan vent installed without fill in panel. the people who fitted the air con put biro marks on the roof line
there was a roofd light there originally apparently, I'll add some fill in bits and clean the roof lining, one day
The vent hatch fully open
what's inside the Maxx Air vent cover, nothing
With the vent cover on. there are 2 wing nuts that lock the cover down, undo them and the cover flips over to allow easy cleaning.
Cheapest place to buy the vent fan was either Evil Bay US or Amazon, the Maxx Air vent cover was cheapest by far through Amazon, freight is the killer out of the US, Amazon do cheap freight, but you have to check that's it's actually on Amazon's shelf, not a direct shipment from some where else, they still try to rob you with crazy delivery prices.
