Have just read about this online. A friend shared this. http://www.fairtrading.nsw.gov.au/ftw/A ... utane.page

We were at Bunnings a day or so ago and decided to purchase a second butane gas cooker to supplement the one we have had since the early 90s. Can you believe it cost us $99 then? I have no idea why we bought it as we weren't campers then. It has travelled to Switzerland and then back to Oz and is still going strong. There was a pallet of these units at the entrance to Bunnings and when we went to the checkout with it and a bunch of other stuff. It was a recalled item and we couldn't buy it. Yesterday we had a power outage here due to new street lighting being installed so I dragged out old faithful to finish cooking the boiled eggs I had begin cooking on the electric hot plate. Did we get our $99 worth? I think so!

Sorry about the crappy photo but you can see the price written on the box bottom left. I am still mystified why we bought it. But it works well still!

I must admit we have one as well.
We also have the little heater that uses the same canisters of gas.
I wonder if they are banned as well?
We use out cooker outside the MH so we don't get smells through the MH. (chops, sausages etc)

Fair Trading should have posted a photo of the "Lunchbox" style they were referring to! :?

We have a couple of units, had them for a while, no problems with them but no idea if they come under the category of "Lunchbox" style.

I don't think the use of them is banned yet, just the sale of them so far. They will probably just ban the sale of refills. They might ban common sense next.
Youtube has a warning by Qld Govt at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YKpbS0RhOfw which shows how they can explode if not used correctly.

Butane cooker ban.

Post by Peter and Sandra »

NSW has banned the sale of those portable butane "lunchbox" cookers.

http://www.fairtrading.nsw.gov.au/ftw/A ... utane.page

We bought one years ago when they first came out and found it pretty useless and it has resided in the shed ever since as it didn't work well in cold windy conditions or at any altitude above sea level. We also had problems with it leaking when in use so never used it again.
