Blinking/Flickering LED's.

Post by Kelvin12 »

G'Day Crew,

Another problem for the auto elect's amongst us, hopefully. I just installed 2 small reading lights, LED's. Since installing them these and the other LED's blink when I turn them on individually until I turn on another light elsewhere in the bus. This has just happened since installing these particular lights. Prior to this all worked as expected. All the lights throughout the bus are on a separate circuit and individual fuses. The new lights stop flickering when another light is turned on. Prior to these latest lights not a problem. I have 24v house batteries with a 12v converter to operate the LED's and other 12v accessories. Again no problem until recently.

Hope all this is making sense.

It sounds like the new LEDs don't pull enough power to get the 24 to 12 converters electronics working properly, switching another light on to create additional load solves the problem.
Could also be caused by a poor ground/earth which is stopping current flow.

I had a couple of strips that used to flicker, they were12v/24v in a 24v system, they flickered badly till I wired them in series. Go figure.

Thanks for the replies crew. I can't re-wire the lights now but I can live with the problem as it easy enough to flick on another light and generally it stops the problem when I turn the other light of again. Haven't heard back from the supplier as yet. They were going to check with their supplier and that might take some time being China. I am happy enough with the light and they do what they are supposed to do and look good. I'll post again if the supplier comes up with anything useful.
