I've got similar to Mint but on CD so I can pop it in and run it IF I want to on my 8.1 lappy.
It can even be run straight off a USB stick without install.

Re: What do you need Windows for?
Now that looks like a pretty cool system Bruce, would be interested to hear more about it and how it works. We have a 15.5m motorsailer and will check out Navigatrix when have the time to fiddle with it. There's a lot linux navigation software, CPN is pretty good, a friend has it on his laptop says it's really good and is looking at porting it to his Ubuntu phone when he gets if in a few weeks. He claims just about every bit of linux software will run on Ubuntu phone, so it will be interesting to see how his operates and how buggy it is.
Broken windows are the norm for many at the moment, particularly for those using 8.1 or testing 10. If it keeps going the way it is, there will be some very disappointed people when they are forced to upgrade to win10.
Wet and cold here, so it's an in doors day.
