Well, that was a very scary week, glad its over...sort of. Our internet is on and off, our mobile phones are just not working, but these are only little annoyances.

The lake came right up our backyard, giving us an absolute waterfrontage for a few days. Our jetty has only just today begun to appear from under the water, we have lost about a quarter of the planks on top of the jetty. The winds were horrific as well as the masses of water, 6 inches of rain, on Tuesday alone. I have lost track now of the total for the week, but you can believe me when I say , it has been very wet.

We lost power Monday night. The solar set up took over keeping the fridge and freezer cold and gave us one power point for the house phone. Very useful having a phone until you find most of this area has lost power and phone lines. Later on Monday night we heard a mighty thud, WTF, went out to discover a huge gum tree has totally blocked our street. Our car can get in and out, but no through traffic (that has been bliss, no hoons, sound familiar?). Sadly the gum tree roots were under our water mains. So we also lost our water supply. It is not a good thing when you cant shower, get a cuppa or get online. We are still suffering from a bit of cabin fever.

Our power and water have been restored, but it has been a learning experience, made us appreciate the little things in life all over again. Our street is still cut in half... yes!!! We are not unhappy. The poor council workers came out in the worst parts of the storm to cut the water off, to stop it flooding into homes and returned as soon as it was safe to reconnect us to a temporary supply.

Our grocery shops have been unable to access their distribution centres, so our side of the lake has been at a disadvantage. Today we were able to get fresh milk and veg from across the lake because the roads are starting to be safe enough to drive cross country. Obviously, we are in no rush for the mighty gum that is blocking our street to be dismantled, but it will happen when our turn comes. There are a lot of people who have done it a lot tougher than us. We had some bottled water and had enough in the caravan tank to have a quick shower. Our most frustrating thing has been not being able to let family and friends know that we are ok. With no mobile phone towers working, we realise just how much we do rely on our pocket devices. My internet came on for half an hour last night and is back this afternoon, but no guarantees that it will last.

That is our adventure for this week. Hope it doesn't happen too often. Perhaps we will find ways to perfect being self sufficient. Yes, knowing there was a boat to sit in if needed, was a comfort. But the waves, winds and tides were not really in favour of safe boating, but it was there all the same!

Glad to read that everyone else is safe too. Oh well back to normal transmission!

Our power was turned back on today about 3.30pm, have been without power for 3 1/2 days.

Discovered this arvo 3 huge trees next door roots all exposed & leaning towards our house, neighbour has put a call in re same, he has already had 2 come down roots & all, if these ones fall we will receive extensive damage to our home, he has a cottage garden ferns & plants all beneath the trees.

Stay safe Shirley, those bloody big trees are a worry. Whatever you do, have the SES number next to the phone, you poor things. I suspect you have had a longer week than we have.

We have a threatening gum, but thankfully it is aimed at the road, not our house. We don't care if it falls, will save a fortune in pruning bills.

We had the Fire & Rescue guys from Doyalson here awhile ago they have given the neighbour a phone number of a guy to take the trees out sooner the better, I just pray we don't get anymore southerly winds until they are out, it is certainly a worry.

Has the rain reached up there yet? It's not very heavy but the ground is still so water logged ponds developed very quickly across the front yard and I very nearly got the Ford stuck as well. Went to the Central Hotel for dinner, thought we would sit out in the under cover area so Margaret could have a cigarette with dinner..... the wind was freezing, so back inside we went  Still raining here, at least I got the thermal paint on the Mazda roof, hopefully it had enough time to dry or there will be a lot of cleaning up to do

Yes we did have thunder, lightning & rain earlier seems to have stopped while I was sleeping, lol, lol, no hail.
The trees will be removed on Tuesday, crane ordered to do the work, here's hoping that they stay upright until Tuesday, the ground here is very wet too.
The amount of trees down around the area is unbelievable looks like a war zone, thank goodness it has been sunny days for everyone to start the clean up work.
Energy guys still about checking power lines.
