Yep, wander up to the Princess hwy, possibly join it via th Bass Hwy,

then, the Monash, tunnel, over the Westgate bridge and take the ring road, then left onto the hwy to Ballarat.

No lights and an easy chug.

Traffic should be OK on Sunday unless they have a fun run !! follow what supersparky said we use this route all the time to go to Gippsland. Great free camp near us and the kettle is always on . Have a safe trip

Cheers Ros.

Was just thinking of using the Princess Hwy till it gets me to the Westgate then where ever to Ballarat.(no toll)
Will be NO fun runs or peddle pushers out today its pissing down and gale force winds .
Even thinking of putting it off till tomorrow but would rather leave today to be outside of a working week. remember we are from a small country town with no "lights traffic or round abouts" so better even with the crap weather move today.

Bernie,

It might be better going today. Weekdays are just busy....

The toll $4-8 will be worth it. Otherwise, you have to navigate going through/around the city. (traffic an lights)

You pick it up at Toorak road and exit at Kings way for the Westgate.

Thanks Ros will try and get to see you while here (Ballarat)
We came all the way from the Princess Hwy thru to the Gateway no problems.
Yes windy is/was a understatement plus horizontal rain before we got to Melbourne.
All snugged up and cosy now with warm food in bellies.

Bernie, You have made a wise decision to travel on Sunday. You wouldn't like peak hour traffic in Melbourne, it is nearly as bad as Sydney. Enjoy the rest of your journey out in the countryside.
Cheers

Method in my madness David, as it was Mummys day I thought that all would be off the road by lunch as I went thru the capital.
Well bugga me they was all still on the road getting in my way.
Long hill Bruce it was incredible just went on and on and on, but we made it be here for a week so will get to see and do lots.
