40 Mile Beach WA -Restricted length of stays.

Post by Keith Morris »

"tanks" here--
I have just had contact with Leon the Caretaker at the 40 Mile camping area.
Leon informs me that the Shire have LIMITED THE LENGTH OF STAY at the campsite to 29 days maximum stay in any 3 month period.
This is something to consider before driving thousands of kilometers to get there and spending your money .

I'm now 87 years old, having experienced another birthday, and I'm still living in WA, single (gave up looking), white hair, no teeth, no money, no worries.
I plan to have another birthday next year.

Yes certainly is something to consider a long way to drive for 29 days.

Actually the wording would mean if you stayed the 29 days then you couldn't return for 3 mths or 2 anyway, not to good for those wanting the winter sun.

No wonder people get peeved off with this sort of thing, not as if people were being turned away. $$ is $$

"tanks" here--- UPDATE ON 40 MILE BEACH.

I have just spoken with the Visitors Centre and they inform me that this is not the Shire doing this.
It appears that this is a State Government direction and applies to ALL CAMPING AREAS IN WA --not just the Karratha Shire.
Another win for the Caravan Lobby mob.
The Centre suggest that we contact our local member to voice our displeasure.

The WA authorities seem to be pushing more for Private Enterprise taking for example what they want to do with The Ningaloo Region i.e. locking it up for leasing to private enterprise and Bugger the locals who toiled for 90 yrs in the area.
This type of treatment does not help for Aussie tourists travelling the country,if anything probably puts them of visiting WA.
Typical of Govt authorities and conservationists who insist on locking up the country for whatever reasons they come up with.
I know of an area Nth of Mareeba, Nth Qld which once used to have approx 50 to 60 kms of river system open for camping and is now completely fenced off for "SO CALLED CONSERVATION" and the area is being taken over with Rubber Vine and NO Controlled Burn Offs.
Before the Cattle station owners controlled this Noxious vine with Seeding of Vine Eating Bugs, the movement of the cattle kept it in check even though they never ate it and Controlled Burns.

Cheers Kev.
