VAST General Info please...

Post by Greynomad »

Looking for VAST info:
Q1: Can I use my Winegard aerial, or MUST it be a dish?
Q2: If 'No' to Q1, any recommendations on brand/installer of dish?
Q3: Do you still need to renew every 6 months?
Q4: To get subscription, is 'touring outback Qld' as good as 'touring outback SA'?
Q5: Can I buy a VAST box alone in advance of applying for a subscription? From where?
Q6: (a) In round figures, what should the whole set-up cost? (b) Is there a cost for the VAST subscription?
Regards & God bless,
Ray

Q1: No
Q2: I like Access Antennas. I have used them a few times and I found them good to deal with. You need to tell us if you want a auto system or a portable system.

Q3:travellers need to renew every 6 months. It is a simple online form.
Q4: travelling is travelling no matter where you are.
Q5: No, you will need the vast card number which is paired with the decoder.
Q6: portable system is about $500 depending on which decoder you want. No cost for subscription.

You still need to buy the sat dish whether it be a portable unit or a mounted auto unit.

G,day Ray
We bought a portable system from Access and have found it easy to set up and good value for money compared to some of the other setups I have seen(you only get what you pay for) we went for the Satlink tuning device, this makes getting a perfect reception so easy, combined with the wikicamps sat finder with a bit of practice and no trees in the way you can set up in less than 10 minutes.
our set up delivered to Fishing Point was around the $850 mark two years ago
Cheers Chris

Ray I've been traveling and hence haven't replied.
If you catch up with Vic from Victoria........ (ltvic) either here or maybe on another forum, check out his dish.
It is made of (I think) fibreglass and is in 2 halves. It packs away very easily in a little slide out drawer.
First one I've seen like it & for smaller BIG rigs it answers a few problems.
On the otherhand Ballarat Bill has been known to create magic with a mount on the rear of Eddie the BushRats little/big outfit.
Once you have had a VAST setup you will seldom bother using ordinary TV reception. Believe me!!

Sorry, people,
Forgot to mention that the dish MUST replace the Winegard aerial on roof....
Tripods are out.
Thanks for the many suggestions...

Dish doesn't need to be full auto.
If Winegard turn mechanism can be adapted to incorporate tilt and thus be utilised, great; otherwise we'll just pull the lot out and plate over it to install dish mount.
Alternatively, could Ballarat Bill cobble up something to adapt a tripod system to a roof-mounting of some sort? I assume Eddie's system is a manual-aimer...
On the otherhand Ballarat Bill has been known to create magic with a mount on the rear of Eddie the BushRats little/big outfit.
( :? Are you there, Ballarat Bill? ;) )

This is Eddie's. As you can see it swivels up from its locked down possie and rotates by the angle you pull the wheel carrier out.
