Telstra Air

Post by SteveW »

For Telstra users on the road Telstra Air is something that might be of use. At the many hotspots that are available now you can access the unused data allowance available on your home Broadband - 200G in our case and we have never used more that 30G in a month. Look up Telstra Air. They can describe it better than I can.

The catch is that your connection gets slower, according to their blurb. I asked how slow, "depends on how many ppl are connected on your service"
Not for us I think, I will keep our data allowance and argue with them about that, far too complicated to have other users sucking up your bandwidth and you, who pays for the connection, unable to access decent speeds because of other users.

Enquired about this last week.
The Telstra salesgirl lost me the moment she mentioned "You donate a small portion of your home internet allowance, to share with everybody..."
Besides, as with the NBN, it's a bit hard to participate in Telstra Air when we use a Mobile Broadband dongle!
No home phone line means no NBN, and no 'home' internet allowance, as we use the Mobile Broadband dongle at home as well as OTR.
Regards & God bless,
Ray

Sales girl is wrong. When you use Telstra Air, the data you use comes off your own home allowance. Makes some sense as the last month's 200g home allowance would have gone to waste.

Don't ask Brian about how hard it is to get onto the Telstra Air thing, he has been trying since Thursday last week. Even went to the local Telstra shop and they hadn't activated their hotspot either

Reminds me of the joke, "what's the difference between a car salesman and a computer salesman?". The car sales man knows when he's lying!

dawg (yeah, I know it's an old one, but seems applicable here.)

Yep me thinks it may be a good idea but looks like it may be another good idea gone bad before it starts.
If it was so good and they wanted it to work you would think they would have directed their shops to activate first so they could demo.
Have been into the local telstra shop 3 times trying to set up and test and they dont know when and IF/OR they will ever activate the modem in the shop.
They told me they will soon activate all the phone booths.
Sorry none in Gods country, because the well disciplined children around here would destroy them completely in 24 hours.
