Vale Suzuki Grand Vitara

Post by SteveW »

One of the favourite 'toads', the Suzuki Grand Vitara, is about to be replaced by a new model Suzuki Vitara. Along with the 'Grand' moniker, the transfer case disappears and, therefore, it's ability to be flat towed. The Grand Vitara has been the vehicle of choice for those who want to tow an automatic vehicle - and that particularly applies to one car families. If you want a new one get in now while they are in run out mode. The replacement choice for those who want a capable, reasonably luxurious vehicle with the most up to date safety features will be a Jeep Cherokee automatic with Active Drive II transmission. Not all models have Active Drive II. Jeep, in their advertising material, promote the fact that the Active Drive II models can be flat towed. They even have a demonstration video on how to place the electronically controlled system into neutral.

Now before the doomsayers bang on about Jeep reliability (I don't own one) let me say that Jeep produce more vehicles per year than the total number of new vehicles sold in Australia each year. I'll bet London to a brick that less Jeeps were recalled last year than the total number of vehicles (all makes) recalled in Australia during the same period.

Let the debate begin .........

You need to read the message again. :) :)
I'm not replacing - the Grand Vitara is finishing up as a model. I'll be keeping the Terios for the time being but down the track we will downsize to one vehicle and that's when we have to think about it.

We tow a 2007 Jimny auto (bought new).
Can't flat-tow it, so it rides on a Tilta Trailer. All-up weight of car & trailer is 1.3 tonnes (1300kg) of which the trailer accounts for only 300kg. Barely notice it behind Girt (6.5 litre turbo diesel, 8.1 tonnes of m/h).
Jim is a great little shopping cart that can also keep up with - and in boggy territory surpass - all the 4WD Big Boys!
It also goes twice as far on a litre of petrol... :D

Son and Heir took us out for a tag-along with his Jeep Renegade down a fire trail in a NP near Melbourne. Thought he'd show up our "toy 4WD"... we ended up passing him in a boggy stretch, and had to winch him out.

Sad to hear the new SGV will become a soft-roader, though...

Steve,
Don't want to be picky, but sub-editors never retire, they just stop being paid... :)
The correct wording is "fewer Jeeps are recalled", not "less".

You could get a job at any newspaper now. I'm no expert but I shake my head everyday when read the newspapers.

Of course, that assumes newspapers care about spelling and grammar.
