Sad News from Strathmerton (V)

Drop in and dribble on about nothing serious. Seriously a mad place to hang out. Better to avoid it if you're not in the mood!!! If you're determined to be sad, bad, mad & angry then move along!!!

Sad News from Strathmerton (V)

Post by Greynomad »

HI all,

Just had some work done by Murray Valley Motorhomes in Strathmerton.

While chatting with Owner/Manager/Chief Tradie, Darryl Brian, I commented that the usually cheerful voice of Cath was absent.
She apparently has a new job in Cobram, and Darryl's wife, Lisa also has taken a job elsewhere. So Darryl is now Receptionist/Office Manager, as well!

REASON: Darryl is closing MVMH in September unless he can find a buyer with the right skills.
Darryl says there's some interest from a cabinetmaker of about 30 years' experience who lives locally, but apparently he's not a 'red-hot prospect'...
Darryl would be pleased if the bloke buys the business. Meantime, he's trying to wind down.

He is NOT closing due to lack of business!
Darryl has designed a low-profile, low-energy air-con unit for truck sleeper cabs which does not need a separate battery or a genny running all night.
He apparently has a manufacturer lined up, but they want Darryl to head the separate joint-venture company they have set up.
They also want his undivided attention at the new company... and they are waving $2m under his nose as a persuader!
So MVMH has to go... or be sold on.

If you need some work done on your m/h, and you prefer to have it done by a bloke who knows his onions and takes pride in his work, ring Darryl soon and book it in.
Regards & God bless,
Ray

Unfortunately, Mr C, it is a loss for country industry, but a Big Gain for Daryl.
It's a bit hard to pass up $2m in development funding & seed capital for something you've developed to prototype stage!
He won't be moving out of Strathmerton... maybe the new manufacturing plant will be built there!
So it could be a Big Gain for country industry, just a shift of focus...

We've got Girt with Daryl at the moment, awaiting work to replace a CRT TV with a flat screen TV & assorted other maintenance bits & bobs.
We wanted the work started in early July, but Daryl couldn't even look at it until this week coming!
He's flat out finishing up work for several customers, while fitting one of his demo a/c units to a truck which was supposed to arrive two weeks ago, but has been 'delayed'!! Despite the delayed arrival, it has to be back with the Major Fleet Owner (no names, no pack drill) in time for a Big Release to industry media which has already been scheduled and announced!
He's a bit frazzled at the moment... :-}

Sad, in a way, Ray to hear of the possible closure of the business.

Had some work done there when we had our Winnie & also recently with our hot water service in the van.

A lovely couple... hope it all works out for them.

Tried to discuss with him the option of running on RV's from Lithium batteries whilst I was in town several months ago but he still had the concept of Lithium's will never take off and they are too dangerous etc etc so walked out again thinking " well your loss really as many will take the home split where your unit would have been great and replace the old efficient RV units".
Sorry to see people with great insight in one direction but blind to others.
This will limit his development options as he is only interested in trucks that will have motors running all the time where as her could have developed a system that the truckies could have utilised the AC whilst stopped for mandatory rests etc.

Brian,
I think that's the key to his new a/c prototype... it will not drain the battery, and doesn't need the engine to run all night, or a separate battery for the a/c.
Anyway, despite losing a great m/h service centre, I say Good Luck To Him!

It's now GOOD NEWS from Strathmerton!

Daryl has sold the business to another local cabinetmaker with about 30 years' experience in the trade.
I guess that means he'll do a decent job in that department.
And Daryl's aircon specialist has agreed to stay on contract to the new bloque (also called Daryl!).
Have yet to determine if the plumbing & panelbeating/fibreglassing side of things will continue.
