Peter you will love that trip through the GCR. Check out my blog for some idea of the beauty. We took 6 nights a couple of years ago. Definately spend a night or 2 at the Breakaways the other end. Water available at all the roadhouses.

That was to years ago I put on the forum. I had no intentions to go [made enough damage to the 5'er on the Oodnadatta track] but one day who knows.

Hi Bill, while SWMBO fossicks for sapphires, you are doing what?????? cleaning solar panels, adjusting lithiums......etc or just reading. Beautiful country to your west, well worth while a look. Travelled Glen Innes to Grafton via Gwydir Hwy last year and stayed at Grafton Showgrounds....arriving a week late for the Jacaranda festival. Regards, Hans

Hello Hans,
Well I had a few beers, but when I wandered over got sucked in for a bit, pretty thrilling when you dump the sieve load upside down and there is a big piece of blue sitting in the middle ! So then I would have to go and have another few beers to celebrate.............
Also finished an 1,100 page book, last of a series I have been reading for years called the Red Queen.

So was interesting experience, back in GI showground tonight, dunno which way we will go home tomorrow yet, there seems another developer on the scene so will see what eventuates, I have found they want to buy for as little as possible, like 275 per hectare when same land a little closer to town is 350 per hectare, so that is quite a difference.

Hans,
You didn't tell us about the BIG Hill !!
18 K's all downhill, Not the slightest bit of level or uphill in the lot, All down. And some of the hairpin corners took full lock on VP
This was on the Gwdir between Glen Innes and Grafton. Once at the bottom we found the 60 K's or so into Grafton a real PIA. By Grafton my left arm was aching from gear changing and I had a headache, we have not encountered such a windy, hilly, shitty piece of road in VP before.
Never mind all home now, fix couple of minor problems and back to negotiating with developers, seems the first offer was a tad on the light side.

Oh do we remember that road and never again. Seeing we were total virgins at this driving a bus on those roads but both the bus and us survived but not going that way ever again and def not through Toowoomba

Toowoomba is like a teenager, its all very frenetic for a bit but then its all over very quickly.
Cunninghams is more like an experienced lover, long slow buildup with a definite peak at the top, with a long slow descent afterwards.
Gywdir, the sheer terror of a first timer perhaps ?
