T1 is the expert Phil!
Are you talking HEAVY vehicle or a light vehicle?
Basically all they need to do is view the engine number to ensure it's the same as on the paperwork.
Done in a smaller town is advised. Bigger towns/cities have dedicated inspection centres and CAN be more fussy. (eg.Mount Gambier )

It can all be done online but is easier 'over the counter'.
You'll need proof you live in SA or a caravan park receipt can do. (I think?)

When buying a new car recently from interstate, we enquired at Murray Bridge and they said we would have to take it to Regency Park. We ended up getting the registration done at Mt Gambier, they had an inspection centre nearby, cost $14 for the inspection (we got our money's worth though, it took him about 1/2 an hour to find the VIN on the car!). Much better than going to Regency.

Murray Bridge was a headache, Gawler couldn't have been more helpful. You need to establish a customer number first, that is the tricky bit if you've just arrived, but a caravan park receipt on an official letter head seems to establish residency as they class it as a rent receipt. Once you get that part sorted the rest is reasonably easy, as long as the caravan is under 2,000kg tare weight, otherwise it's a heavy vehicle and I'm still to do that battle.

Gary Johnson changed all his to SA some time ago, yep caravan park receipt was enough. However he had a new engine fitted and had not changed his QLD paperwork so that created all sorts of problems he would not have had without it. Otherwise quite easy he said.
